620e77533f Merge branch 'core-rcu-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull RCU changes from Ingo Molnar:

 0. 'idle RCU':

Adds RCU APIs that allow non-idle tasks to enter RCU idle mode and
provides x86 code to make use of them, allowing RCU to treat
user-mode execution as an extended quiescent state when the new
RCU_USER_QS kernel configuration parameter is specified. (Work is
in progress to port this to a few other architectures, but is not
     part of this series.)

 1. A fix for a latent bug that has been in RCU ever since the addition
of CPU stall warnings. This bug results in false-positive stall
warnings, but thus far only on embedded systems with severely
     cut-down userspace configurations.

 2. Further reductions in latency spikes for huge systems, along with
additional boot-time adaptation to the actual hardware.

This is a large change, as it moves RCU grace-period initialization
and cleanup, along with quiescent-state forcing, from softirq to a
kthread. However, it appears to be in quite good shape (famous
     last words).

 3. Updates to documentation and rcutorture, the latter category
including keeping statistics on CPU-hotplug latencies and fixing
     some initialization-time races.

 4. CPU-hotplug fixes and improvements.

 5. Idle-loop fixes that were omitted on an earlier submission.

 6. Miscellaneous fixes and improvements

In certain RCU configurations new kernel threads will show up (rcu_bh,
rcu_sched), showing RCU processing overhead.

13511def87 regulator: deprecate regulator-compatible DT property
When the bindings for the TPS6586x regulator were being proposed, I
asserted that DT node naming rules for bus child nodes should also be
applied to nodes inside the TPS6586x regulator node itself. In other
words, that each node providing regulator init data should be named
after the type of object it represented ("regulator") and hence that
some other property was required to indicate which regulator the node
described ("regulator-compatible"). In turn this led to multiple nodes
having the same name, thus requiring node names to use a unit address
to make them unique, thus requiring reg properties within the nodes and

However, subsequent discussion indicates that the rules I was asserting
only applies to standardized bus nodes, and within a device's own node,
the binding can basically do anything sane that it wants.

Hence, this change deprecates the register-compatible property, and
instead uses node names to replace this functionality. This greatly
simplifies the device tree content, making them smaller and more legible.

The code is changed such that old device trees continue to work.

86f343b50b rcu: Fix CONFIG_RCU_FAST_NO_HZ stall warning message
The print_cpu_stall_fast_no_hz() function attempts to print -1 when
the ->idle_gp_timer is not pending, but unsigned arithmetic causes it
to instead print ULONG_MAX, which is 4294967295 on 32-bit systems and
18446744073709551615 on 64-bit systems. Neither of these are the most
reader-friendly values, so this commit instead causes "timer not pending"
to be printed when ->idle_gp_timer is not pending.

d40011f601 rcu: Control grace-period duration from sysfs
Although almost everyone is well-served by the defaults, some uses of RCU
benefit from shorter grace periods, while others benefit more from the
greater efficiency provided by longer grace periods. Situations requiring
a large number of grace periods to elapse (and wireshark startup has
been called out as an example of this) are helped by lower-latency
grace periods. Furthermore, in some embedded applications, people are
willing to accept a small degradation in update efficiency (due to there
being more of the shorter grace-period operations) in order to gain the
lower latency.

In contrast, those few systems with thousands of CPUs need longer grace
periods because the CPU overhead of a grace period rises roughly
linearly with the number of CPUs. Such systems normally do not make
much use of facilities that require large numbers of grace periods to
elapse, so this is a good tradeoff.

Therefore, this commit allows the durations to be controlled from sysfs.
There are two sysfs parameters, one named "jiffies_till_first_fqs" that
specifies the delay in jiffies from the end of grace-period initialization
until the first attempt to force quiescent states, and the other named
"jiffies_till_next_fqs" that specifies the delay (again in jiffies)
between subsequent attempts to force quiescent states. They both default
to three jiffies, which is compatible with the old hard-coded behavior.

At some future time, it may be possible to automatically increase the
grace-period length with the number of CPUs, but we do not yet have
sufficient data to do a good job. Preliminary data indicates that we
should add an addiitonal jiffy to each of the delays for every 200 CPUs
in the system, but more experimentation is needed. For now, the number
of systems with more than 1,000 CPUs is small enough that this can be
relegated to boot-time hand tuning.

f59c8f9fe6 regulator: core: Support bypass mode
Many regulators support a bypass mode where they simply switch their
input supply to the output. This is mainly used in low power retention
states where power consumption is extremely low so higher voltage or
less clean supplies can be used.

Support this by providing ops for the drivers and a consumer API which
allows the device to be put into bypass mode if all consumers enable it
and the machine enables permission for this.

This is not supported as a mode since the existing modes are rarely used
due to fuzzy definition and mostly redundant with modern hardware which is
able to respond promptly to load changes.

0de4b95409 doc: getdelays.c: remember to close() socket on error in create_nl_socket()
If the call to setsockopt() fails in
Documentation/accounting/getdelays.c::create_nl_socket() we return -1
without closing the socket, thus leaking it when the 'fd' variable
goes out of scope.

Easily fixed by just jumping to the 'error' label instead of returning
since we do the proper cleanup there.

While I was there I noticed that the error message that is printet if
setsockopt() fails was broken over two lines - put that on a single
line so it is easier to grep for.

Pull networking update from David Miller:
"A couple weeks of bug fixing in there. The largest chunk is all the
broken crap Amerigo Wang found in the netpoll layer."

 1) netpoll and it's users has several serious bugs:
    a) uses GFP_KERNEL with locks held
    b) interfaces requiring interrupts disabled are called with them
       enabled
    c) and vice versa
    d) VLAN tag demuxing, as per all other RX packet input paths, is not
       applied

    All from Amerigo Wang.

 2) Hopefully cure the ipv4 mapped ipv6 address TCP early demux bugs for
    good, from Neal Cardwell.

 3) Unlike AF_UNIX, AF_PACKET sockets don't set a default credentials
when the user doesn't specify one explicitly during sendmsg().
Instead we attach an empty (zero) SCM credential block which is
definitely not what we want. Fix from Eric Dumazet.

 4) IPv6 illegally invokes netdevice notifiers with RCU lock held, fix
    from Ben Hutchings.

 5) inet_csk_route_child_sock() checks wrong inet options pointer, fix
    from Christoph Paasch.

 6) When AF_PACKET is used for transmit, packet loopback doesn't behave
properly when a socket fanout is enabled, from Eric Leblond.

 7) On bluetooth l2cap channel create failure, we leak the socket, from
    Jaganath Kanakkassery.

 8) Fix all the netprio file handling bugs found by Al Viro, from John
    Fastabend.

 9) Several error return and NULL deref bug fixes in networking drivers
    from Julia Lawall.

10) A large smattering of struct padding et al. kernel memory leaks to
    userspace found of Mathias Krause.

11) Conntrack expections in netfilter can access an uninitialized timer,
    fix from Pablo Neira Ayuso.

12) Several netfilter SIP tracker bug fixes from Patrick McHardy.

13) IPSEC ipv6 routes are not initialized correctly all the time,
resulting in an OOPS in inet_putpeer(). Also from Patrick McHardy.

14) Bridging does rcu_dereference() outside of RCU protected area, from
    Stephen Hemminger.

15) Fix routing cache removal performance regression when looking up
output routes that have a local destination. From Zheng Yan.

0c7bbeb9f1 ideapad: add Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 support (part 3)
The patch adds support for Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 laptop. It makes all special
keys working, adds possibility to control fan like Windows does, controls
Touchpad Disabled LED, toggles touchpad state via keyboard controller and
corrects touchpad behavior on resume from suspend. It is new, modified
version of patch. Now it does not depend on psmouse and does not need patching
of input subsystem.

6556bfde65 netconsole.txt: revision of examples for the receiver of kernel messages
There are at least 4 implementations of netcat with the BSD-based
being the only one that has to be used without the -p switch to
specify the listening port.

Jan Engelhardt suggested to add an example for socat(1).

9d8dad742a Yama: higher restrictions should block PTRACE_TRACEME
The higher ptrace restriction levels should be blocking even
PTRACE_TRACEME requests. The comments in the LSM documentation are
misleading about when the checks happen (the parent does not go through
