c968fd23c6 NFSv4.0: Fix the wake up of the next waiter in nfs_release_seqid()
There is no need to wake up another waiter on the seqid list unless the
seqid being removed is at the head of the list, and so is relinquishing
control of the sequence counter to the next entry.

The NULL-pointer dereference was due to nfs42_complete_copies() listed
the nfs_server->ss_copies by the field ss_copies of nfs4_copy_state.
So the nfs4_copy_state address ffff0100f98fa3f0 was offset by 0x10 and
the data accessed through this pointer was also incorrect. Generally,
the ordered list nfs4_state_owner->so_states indicate open(O_RDWR) or
open(O_WRITE) states are reclaimed firstly by nfs4_reclaim_open_state().
When destination state reclaim is failed with NFS_STATE_RECOVERY_FAILED
and copies are not deleted in nfs_server->ss_copies, the source state
may be passed to the nfs42_complete_copies() process earlier, resulting
in this crash scene finally. To solve this issue, we add a list_head
nfs_server->ss_src_copies for a server-to-server copy specially.

af94dca79b NFSv4: Fail mounts if the lease setup times out
If the server is down when the client is trying to mount, so that the
calls to exchange_id or create_session fail, then we should allow the
mount system call to fail rather than hang and block other mount/umount
calls.

d98f722725 nfs: simplify and guarantee owner uniqueness.
I have evidence of an Linux NFS client getting NFS4ERR_BAD_SEQID to a
v4.0 LOCK request to a Linux server (which had fixed the problem with
RELEASE_LOCKOWNER bug fixed).
The LOCK request presented a "new" lock owner so there are two seq ids
in the request: that for the open file, and that for the new lock.
Given the context I am confident that the new lock owner was reported to
have the wrong seqid. As lock owner identifiers are reused, the server
must still have a lock owner active which the client thinks is no longer
active.

I wasn't able to determine a root-cause but the simplest fix seems to be
to ensure lock owners are always unique much as open owners are (thanks
to a time stamp). The easiest way to ensure uniqueness is with a 64bit
counter for each server. That will never cycle (if updated once a
nanosecond the last 584 years. A single NFS server would not handle
open/lock requests nearly that fast, and a Linux node is unlikely to
have an uptime approaching that).

This patch removes the 2 ida and instead uses a per-server
atomic64_t to provide uniqueness.

Note that the lock owner already encodes the id as 64 bits even though
it is a 32bit value. So changing to a 64bit value does not change the
encoding of the lock owner. The open owner encoding is now 4 bytes
larger.

8f6a7c9467 nfs: fix memory leak in error path of nfs4_do_reclaim
Commit c77e22834a ("NFSv4: Fix a potential sleep while atomic in

nfs4_purge_state_owners() and finish it outside the rcu lock.
However, the error path is omitted. As a result, the state owners in
"freeme" will not be released.
Fix it by adding freeing in the error path.

Some pNFS implementations, such as flexible files, want the client to
send the layout stats and layout errors that may have incurred while the

37ffe06537 NFSv4: Fixup smatch warning for ambiguous return
Dan Carpenter reports smatch warning for nfs4_try_migration() when a memory
allocation failure results in a zero return value. In this case, a
transient allocation failure error will likely be retried the next time the

We can fixup the smatch warning with a small refactor: attempt all three
allocations before testing and returning on a failure.

0460253913 NFSv4: nfs4_do_open() is incorrectly triggering state recovery
We're seeing spurious calls to nfs4_schedule_stateid_recovery() from
nfs4_do_open() in situations where there is no trigger coming from the
server.
In theory the code path being triggered is supposed to notice that state
recovery happened while we were processing the open call result from the
server, before the open stateid is published. However in the years since
that code was added, we've also added the 'session draining' mechanism,
which ensures that the state recovery will wait until all the session
slots have been returned. In nfs4_do_open() the session slot is only
returned on exit of the function, so we don't need the legacy mechanism.

ef8d98f20d NFS: avoid spurious warning of lost lock that is being unlocked.
When the NFSv4 state manager recovers state after a server restart, it
reports that locks have been lost if it finds any lock state for which
recovery hasn't been successful. i.e. any for which
NFS_LOCK_INITIALIZED is not set.

However it only tries to recover locks that are still linked to
inode->i_flctx. So if a lock has been removed from inode->i_flctx, but
the state for that lock has not yet been destroyed, then a spurious
warning results.

nfs4_proc_unlck() calls locks_lock_inode_wait() - which removes the lock
from ->i_flctx - before sending the unlock request to the server and
before the final nfs4_put_lock_state() is called. This allows a window
in which a spurious warning can be produced.

So add a new flag NFS_LOCK_UNLOCKING which is set once the decision has
been made to unlock the lock. This will prevent it from triggering any
warning.

f5d39b0208 freezer, sched: Rewrite core freezer logic
Rewrite the core freezer to behave better wrt thawing and be simpler
in general.

By replacing PF_FROZEN with TASK_FROZEN, a special block state, it is
ensured frozen tasks stay frozen until thawed and don't randomly wake
up early, as is currently possible.

As such, it does away with PF_FROZEN and PF_FREEZER_SKIP, freeing up
two PF_flags (yay!).

Specifically; the current scheme works a little like:

	freezer_do_not_count();
	schedule();
	freezer_count();

And either the task is blocked, or it lands in try_to_freezer()
through freezer_count(). Now, when it is blocked, the freezer
considers it frozen and continues.

However, on thawing, once pm_freezing is cleared, freezer_count()
stops working, and any random/spurious wakeup will let a task run
before its time.

That is, thawing tries to thaw things in explicit order; kernel
threads and workqueues before doing bringing SMP back before userspace
etc.. However due to the above mentioned races it is entirely possible
for userspace tasks to thaw (by accident) before SMP is back.

This can be a fatal problem in asymmetric ISA architectures (eg ARMv9)
where the userspace task requires a special CPU to run.

As said; replace this with a special task state TASK_FROZEN and add
the following state transitions:

	TASK_FREEZABLE	-> TASK_FROZEN
	__TASK_STOPPED	-> TASK_FROZEN
	__TASK_TRACED	-> TASK_FROZEN

The new TASK_FREEZABLE can be set on any state part of TASK_NORMAL
(IOW. TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE and TASK_UNINTERRUPTIBLE) -- any such state
is already required to deal with spurious wakeups and the freezer
causes one such when thawing the task (since the original state is
lost).

The special __TASK_{STOPPED,TRACED} states *can* be restored since
their canonical state is in ->jobctl.

With this, frozen tasks need an explicit TASK_FROZEN wakeup and are
free of undue (early / spurious) wakeups.

080abad71e NFS: restore module put when manager exits.
Commit f49169c97f ("NFSD: Remove svc_serv_ops::svo_module") removed
calls to module_put_and_kthread_exit() from threads that acted as SUNRPC
servers and had a related svc_serv_ops structure. This was correct.

It ALSO removed the module_put_and_kthread_exit() call from
nfs4_run_state_manager() which is NOT a SUNRPC service.

Consequently every time the NFSv4 state manager runs the module count
increments and won't be decremented. So the nfsv4 module cannot be
unloaded.

So restore the module_put_and_kthread_exit() call.

3e2910c7e2 NFS: Improve warning message when locks are lost.
NFSv4 can lose locks if, for example there is a network partition for
longer than the lease period. When this happens a warning message

  NFS: __nfs4_reclaim_open_state: Lock reclaim failed!

is generated, possibly once for each lock (though rate limited).

This is potentially misleading as is can be read as suggesting that lock
reclaim was attempted. However the default behaviour is to not attempt
to recover locks (except due to server report).

This patch changes the reporting to produce at most one message for each
attempt to recover all state from a given server. The message reports
the server name and the number of locks lost if that number is non-zero.
It reports that locks were lost and give no suggestion as to whether
there was an attempt or not.

4dc73c6791 NFSv4: keep state manager thread active if swap is enabled
If we are swapping over NFSv4, we may not be able to allocate memory to
start the state-manager thread at the time when we need it.
So keep it always running when swap is enabled, and just signal it to
start.

This requires updating and testing the cl_swapper count on the root
rpc_clnt after following all ->cl_parent links.

35ce8ae9ae Merge branch 'signal-for-v5.17' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace
Pull signal/exit/ptrace updates from Eric Biederman:
"This set of changes deletes some dead code, makes a lot of cleanups
which hopefully make the code easier to follow, and fixes bugs found
  along the way.

The end-game which I have not yet reached yet is for fatal signals
that generate coredumps to be short-circuit deliverable from
complete_signal, for force_siginfo_to_task not to require changing
userspace configured signal delivery state, and for the ptrace stops
to always happen in locations where we can guarantee on all
architectures that the all of the registers are saved and available on
  the stack.

  Removal of profile_task_ext, profile_munmap, and profile_handoff_task
are the big successes for dead code removal this round.

A bunch of small bug fixes are included, as most of the issues
reported were small enough that they would not affect bisection so I
simply added the fixes and did not fold the fixes into the changes
  they were fixing.

There was a bug that broke coredumps piped to systemd-coredump. I
dropped the change that caused that bug and replaced it entirely with
something much more restrained. Unfortunately that required some
  rebasing.

Some successes after this set of changes: There are few enough calls
to do_exit to audit in a reasonable amount of time. The lifetime of
struct kthread now matches the lifetime of struct task, and the
pointer to struct kthread is no longer stored in set_child_tid. The
flag SIGNAL_GROUP_COREDUMP is removed. The field group_exit_task is
removed. Issues where task->exit_code was examined with
signal->group_exit_code should been examined were fixed.

There are several loosely related changes included because I am
cleaning up and if I don't include them they will probably get lost.

The original postings of these changes can be found at:

     https://lkml.kernel.org/r/87r19opkx1.fsf_-_@email.froward.int.ebiederm.org

I trimmed back the last set of changes to only the obviously correct
once. Simply because there was less time for review than I had hoped"

fa60ce2cb4 treewide: remove editor modelines and cruft
The section "19) Editor modelines and other cruft" in
Documentation/process/coding-style.rst clearly says, "Do not include any
of these in source files."

I recently receive a patch to explicitly add a new one.

Let's do treewide cleanups, otherwise some people follow the existing code
and attempt to upstream their favoriate editor setups.

It is even nicer if scripts/checkpatch.pl can check it.

If we like to impose coding style in an editor-independent manner, I think
editorconfig (patch [1]) is a saner solution.

76246c9219 NFSv4: Use sequence counter with associated spinlock
A sequence counter write side critical section must be protected by some
form of locking to serialize writers. A plain seqcount_t does not
contain the information of which lock must be held when entering a write
side critical section.

Use the new seqcount_spinlock_t data type, which allows to associate a
spinlock with the sequence counter. This enables lockdep to verify that
the spinlock used for writer serialization is held when the write side
critical section is entered.

If lockdep is disabled this lock association is compiled out and has
neither storage size nor runtime overhead.

29fe839976 nfs: fix NULL deference in nfs4_get_valid_delegation
We add the new state to the nfsi->open_states list, making it
potentially visible to other threads, before we've finished initializing
it.

That wasn't a problem when all the readers were also taking the i_lock
(as we do here), but since we switched to RCU, there's now a possibility
that a reader could see the partially initialized state.

Symptoms observed were a crash when another thread called
nfs4_get_valid_delegation() on a NULL inode, resulting in an oops like:

b5fdf8418c NFSv4: Add support for CB_RECALL_ANY for flexfiles layouts
When we receive a CB_RECALL_ANY that asks us to return flexfiles
layouts, we iterate through all the layouts and look at whether or
not there are active open file descriptors that might need them
for I/O. If there are no such descriptors, we return the layouts.

7dc2993a9e NFSv4.0: nfs4_do_fsinfo() should not do implicit lease renewals
Currently, each time nfs4_do_fsinfo() is called it will do an implicit
NFS4 lease renewal, which is not compliant with the NFS4 specification.
This can result in a lease being expired by an NFS server.

Commit 83ca7f5ab3 ("NFS: Avoid PUTROOTFH when managing leases")
introduced implicit client lease renewal in nfs4_do_fsinfo(),
which can result in the NFSv4.0 lease to expire on a server side,
and servers returning NFS4ERR_EXPIRED or NFS4ERR_STALE_CLIENTID.

This can easily be reproduced by frequently unmounting a sub-mount,
then stat'ing it to get it mounted again, which will delay or even
completely prevent client from sending RENEW operations if no other
NFS operations are issued. Eventually nfs server will expire client's
lease and return an error on file access or next RENEW.

This can also happen when a sub-mount is automatically unmounted
due to inactivity (after nfs_mountpoint_expiry_timeout), then it is
mounted again via stat(). This can result in a short window during
which client's lease will expire on a server but not on a client.
This specific case was observed on production systems.

This patch removes the implicit lease renewal from nfs4_do_fsinfo().
