Networking changes for 6.13.
The most significant set of changes is the per netns RTNL. The new behavior is disabled by default, regression risk should be contained. Notably the new config knob PTP_1588_CLOCK_VMCLOCK will inherit its default value from PTP_1588_CLOCK_KVM, as the first is intended to be a more reliable replacement for the latter. Core ---- - Started a very large, in-progress, effort to make the RTNL lock scope per network-namespace, thus reducing the lock contention significantly in the containerized use-case, comprising: - RCU-ified some relevant slices of the FIB control path - introduce basic per netns locking helpers - namespacified the IPv4 address hash table - remove rtnl_register{,_module}() in favour of rtnl_register_many() - refactor rtnl_{new,del,set}link() moving as much validation as possible out of RTNL lock - convert all phonet doit() and dumpit() handlers to RCU - convert IPv4 addresses manipulation to per-netns RTNL - convert virtual interface creation to per-netns RTNL the per-netns lock infra is guarded by the CONFIG_DEBUG_NET_SMALL_RTNL knob, disabled by default ad interim. - Introduce NAPI suspension, to efficiently switching between busy polling (NAPI processing suspended) and normal processing. - Migrate the IPv4 routing input, output and control path from direct ToS usage to DSCP macros. This is a work in progress to make ECN handling consistent and reliable. - Add drop reasons support to the IPv4 rotue input path, allowing better introspection in case of packets drop. - Make FIB seqnum lockless, dropping RTNL protection for read access. - Make inet{,v6} addresses hashing less predicable. - Allow providing timestamp OPT_ID via cmsg, to correlate TX packets and timestamps Things we sprinkled into general kernel code -------------------------------------------- - Add small file operations for debugfs, to reduce the struct ops size. - Refactoring and optimization for the implementation of page_frag API, This is a preparatory work to consolidate the page_frag implementation. Netfilter --------- - Optimize set element transactions to reduce memory consumption - Extended netlink error reporting for attribute parser failure. - Make legacy xtables configs user selectable, giving users the option to configure iptables without enabling any other config. - Address a lot of false-positive RCU issues, pointed by recent CI improvements. BPF --- - Put xsk sockets on a struct diet and add various cleanups. Overall, this helps to bump performance by 12% for some workloads. - Extend BPF selftests to increase coverage of XDP features in combination with BPF cpumap. - Optimize and homogenize bpf_csum_diff helper for all archs and also add a batch of new BPF selftests for it. - Extend netkit with an option to delegate skb->{mark,priority} scrubbing to its BPF program. - Make the bpf_get_netns_cookie() helper available also to tc(x) BPF programs. Protocols --------- - Introduces 4-tuple hash for connected udp sockets, speeding-up significantly connected sockets lookup. - Add a fastpath for some TCP timers that usually expires after close, the socket lock contention. - Add inbound and outbound xfrm state caches to speed up state lookups. - Avoid sending MPTCP advertisements on stale subflows, reducing risks on loosing them. - Make neighbours table flushing more scalable, maintaining per device neigh lists. Driver API ---------- - Introduce a unified interface to configure transmission H/W shaping, and expose it to user-space via generic-netlink. - Add support for per-NAPI config via netlink. This makes napi configuration persistent across queues removal and re-creation. Requires driver updates, currently supported drivers are: nVidia/Mellanox mlx4 and mlx5, Broadcom brcm and Intel ice. - Add ethtool support for writing SFP / PHY firmware blocks. - Track RSS context allocation from ethtool core. - Implement support for mirroring to DSA CPU port, via TC mirror offload. - Consolidate FDB updates notification, to avoid duplicates on device-specific entries. - Expose DPLL clock quality level to the user-space. - Support master-slave PHY config via device tree. Tests and tooling ----------------- - forwarding: introduce deferred commands, to simplify the cleanup phase Drivers ------- - Updated several drivers - Amazon vNic, Google vNic, Microsoft vNic, Intel e1000e and Broadcom Tigon3 - to use netdev-genl to link the IRQs and queues to NAPI IDs, allowing busy polling and better introspection. - Ethernet high-speed NICs: - nVidia/Mellanox: - mlx5: - a large refactor to implement support for cross E-Switch scheduling - refactor H/W conter management to let it scale better - H/W GRO cleanups - Intel (100G, ice):: - adds support for ethtool reset - implement support for per TX queue H/W shaping - AMD/Solarflare: - implement per device queue stats support - Broadcom (bnxt): - improve wildcard l4proto on IPv4/IPv6 ntuple rules - Marvell Octeon: - Adds representor support for each Resource Virtualization Unit (RVU) device. - Hisilicon: - adds support for the BMC Gigabit Ethernet - IBM (EMAC): - driver cleanup and modernization - Cisco (VIC): - raise the queues number limit to 256 - Ethernet virtual: - Google vNIC: - implements page pool support - macsec: - inherit lower device's features and TSO limits when offloading - virtio_net: - enable premapped mode by default - support for XDP socket(AF_XDP) zerocopy TX - wireguard: - set the TSO max size to be GSO_MAX_SIZE, to aggregate larger packets. - Ethernet NICs embedded and virtual: - Broadcom ASP: - enable software timestamping - Freescale: - add enetc4 PF driver - MediaTek: Airoha SoC: - implement BQL support - RealTek r8169: - enable TSO by default on r8168/r8125 - implement extended ethtool stats - Renesas AVB: - enable TX checksum offload - Synopsys (stmmac): - support header splitting for vlan tagged packets - move common code for DWMAC4 and DWXGMAC into a separate FPE module. - Add the dwmac driver support for T-HEAD TH1520 SoC - Synopsys (xpcs): - driver refactor and cleanup - TI: - icssg_prueth: add VLAN offload support - Xilinx emaclite: - adds clock support - Ethernet switches: - Microchip: - implement support for the lan969x Ethernet switch family - add LAN9646 switch support to KSZ DSA driver - Ethernet PHYs: - Marvel: 88q2x: enable auto negotiation - Microchip: add support for LAN865X Rev B1 and LAN867X Rev C1/C2 - PTP: - Add support for the Amazon virtual clock device - Add PtP driver for s390 clocks - WiFi: - mac80211 - EHT 1024 aggregation size for transmissions - new operation to indicate that a new interface is to be added - support radio separation of multi-band devices - move wireless extension spy implementation to libiw - Broadcom: - brcmfmac: optional LPO clock support - Microchip: - add support for Atmel WILC3000 - Qualcomm (ath12k): - firmware coredump collection support - add debugfs support for a multitude of statistics - Qualcomm (ath5k): - Arcadyan ARV45XX AR2417 & Gigaset SX76[23] AR241[34]A support - Realtek: - rtw88: 8821au and 8812au USB adapters support - rtw89: add thermal protection - rtw89: fine tune BT-coexsitence to improve user experience - rtw89: firmware secure boot for WiFi 6 chip - Bluetooth - add Qualcomm WCN785x support for ids Foxconn 0xe0fc/0xe0f3 and 0x13d3:0x3623 - add Realtek RTL8852BE support for id Foxconn 0xe123 - add MediaTek MT7920 support for wireless module ids - btintel_pcie: add handshake between driver and firmware - btintel_pcie: add recovery mechanism - btnxpuart: add GPIO support to power save feature Signed-off-by: Paolo Abeni <pabeni@redhat.com> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQJGBAABCAAwFiEEg1AjqC77wbdLX2LbKSR5jcyPE6QFAmc8sukSHHBhYmVuaUBy ZWRoYXQuY29tAAoJECkkeY3MjxOkLEYQAIMM6Qjh0bh3Byr3gOS1xZzXG+APLjP4 9Jr0p3i+X53i90jvVqzeVO5FTc95MVHSKZ3kvPkDMXSLUaEJxocNHCI5Dzl/2/qL wWdpUB6/ou+jKB4Bn6Z8OvVODT7qrr0tVa9M2/fuKWrIsOU/ntIhG8EhnGddk5U/ vKPSf5PUIb81uNRnF58VusY3wrT1dEoh9VfJYxL+ST+inPxjEAMy6Y+lmlsjGaSX jrS+Pp9KYiUwl3Qt0AQs+cG4OHkJdjbnChrfosWwpkiyddO8klVq06+wX/TiSzfF b9VZtBfy/GZs3lkE1mQkcILdtX5pP3YHQdpsuxFfVI0JHVszx2ck7WdoRux/8F0v kKZsYcO7bH9I1wMFP66Ff9hIbdEQaeucK+KdDkXyPNMfP91Vzmfjii8IBxOC36Ie BbOeFUrXyTxxJ2u0vf/X9JtIq8bcrkNrSd1n1jlGPMqG3FVzsY95+Oi4qfsyeUbl lS1PlVTqPMPFdX54HnxM3y2rJjhd7iXhkvmtuXNjRFThXlOiK3maAPWlM1aZ3b8u Vjs4JFUsW0tleZG+RzANjsGjXbf7AiPUGLZt+acem0K+fcjG4i5aGIAJrxwa/ORx eG74IZRt5cOI371W7gNLGHjwnuge8tFPgOWcRP2eozNm7jvMYALBejYS7eWUTvaf THcvVM+bupEZ =GzPr -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'net-next-6.13' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net-next Pull networking updates from Paolo Abeni: "The most significant set of changes is the per netns RTNL. mm: madvise: implement lightweight guard page mechanism
Implement a new lightweight guard page feature, that is regions of userland virtual memory that, when accessed, cause a fatal signal to arise. Currently users must establish PROT_NONE ranges to achieve this. However this is very costly memory-wise - we need a VMA for each and every one of these regions AND they become unmergeable with surrounding VMAs. In addition repeated mmap() calls require repeated kernel context switches and contention of the mmap lock to install these ranges, potentially also having to unmap memory if installed over existing ranges. The lightweight guard approach eliminates the VMA cost altogether - rather than establishing a PROT_NONE VMA, it operates at the level of page table entries - establishing PTE markers such that accesses to them cause a fault followed by a SIGSGEV signal being raised. This is achieved through the PTE marker mechanism, which we have already extended to provide PTE_MARKER_GUARD, which we installed via the generic page walking logic which we have extended for this purpose. These guard ranges are established with MADV_GUARD_INSTALL. If the range in which they are installed contain any existing mappings, they will be zapped, i.e. free the range and unmap memory (thus mimicking the behaviour of MADV_DONTNEED in this respect). Any existing guard entries will be left untouched. There is therefore no nesting of guarded pages. Guarded ranges are NOT cleared by MADV_DONTNEED nor MADV_FREE (in both instances the memory range may be reused at which point a user would expect guards to still be in place), but they are cleared via MADV_GUARD_REMOVE, process teardown or unmapping of memory ranges. The guard property can be removed from ranges via MADV_GUARD_REMOVE. The ranges over which this is applied, should they contain non-guard entries, will be untouched, with only guard entries being cleared. We permit this operation on anonymous memory only, and only VMAs which are non-special, non-huge and not mlock()'d (if we permitted this we'd have to drop locked pages which would be rather counterintuitive). Racing page faults can cause repeated attempts to install guard pages that are interrupted, result in a zap, and this process can end up being repeated. If this happens more than would be expected in normal operation, we rescind locks and retry the whole thing, which avoids lock contention in this scenario. net_tstamp: add SCM_TS_OPT_ID to provide OPT_ID in control message
SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_ID socket option flag gives a way to correlate TX timestamps and packets sent via socket. Unfortunately, there is no way to reliably predict socket timestamp ID value in case of error returned by sendmsg. For UDP sockets it's impossible because of lockless nature of UDP transmit, several threads may send packets in parallel. In case of RAW sockets MSG_MORE option makes things complicated. More details are in the conversation [1]. This patch adds new control message type to give user-space software an opportunity to control the mapping between packets and values by providing ID with each sendmsg for UDP sockets. The documentation is also added in this patch. tcp: RX path for devmem TCP
In tcp_recvmsg_locked(), detect if the skb being received by the user is a devmem skb. In this case - if the user provided the MSG_SOCK_DEVMEM flag - pass it to tcp_recvmsg_devmem() for custom handling. tcp_recvmsg_devmem() copies any data in the skb header to the linear buffer, and returns a cmsg to the user indicating the number of bytes returned in the linear buffer. tcp_recvmsg_devmem() then loops over the unaccessible devmem skb frags, and returns to the user a cmsg_devmem indicating the location of the data in the dmabuf device memory. cmsg_devmem contains this information: 1. the offset into the dmabuf where the payload starts. 'frag_offset'. 2. the size of the frag. 'frag_size'. 3. an opaque token 'frag_token' to return to the kernel when the buffer is to be released. The pages awaiting freeing are stored in the newly added sk->sk_user_frags, and each page passed to userspace is get_page()'d. This reference is dropped once the userspace indicates that it is done reading this page. All pages are released when the socket is destroyed. alpha: drop pre-EV56 support

Drop both of these and build kernels optimized for EV56 and higher when the "generic" options is selected, tuning for an out-of-order EV6 pipeline, same as Debian userspace. Since this was the only supported architecture without 8-bit and 16-bit stores, common kernel code no longer has to worry about aligning struct members, and existing workarounds from the block and tty layers can be removed. alpha: cabriolet: remove EV5 CPU support
The sys_cabriolet.c file includes support for multiple evaluation boards. pc164 and lx164 are for ev56 CPUs, while the eb164 is now the last supported machine that only supports ev5 but not ev56. alpha: remove LCA and APECS based machines
APECS is the DECchip 21071x chipset for the EV4 and EV45 generation, while LCA is the integrated I/O support on the corresponding low-cost alpha machines of that generation. All of these CPUs lack the BWX extension for byte and word access, so drop the chipset support and all associated machines. Acked-by: Paul E. The sable family (Alphaserver 2000 and 2100) comes in variants for EV4, EV45, EV5 and EV56. Take scr_memmove() out of line, make both it and scr_memcpyw() conditional upon VGA_CONSOLE or MDA_CONSOLE (if neither is selected, we are certain to be working with the kernel-allocated buffer rather than VRAM and defaults will work just fine). Merge branch 'asm-generic-prototypes' into asm-generic
As part of my quest to enable -Wmissing-prototypes by default, these patches clean up some of the prototypes that are needed by all architectures but are handled inconsistently. The duplicate prototypes are moved into common code, which helps both to clean up the existing warnings and simplifies the logic. * asm-generic-prototypes: arm64: vdso32: Define BUILD_VDSO32_64 to correct prototypes csky: fix arch_jump_label_transform_static override arch: add do_page_fault prototypes arch: add missing prepare_ftrace_return() prototypes arch: vdso: consolidate gettime prototypes arch: include linux/cpu.h for trap_init() prototype arch: fix asm-offsets.c building with -Wmissing-prototypes arch: consolidate arch_irq_work_raise prototypes |

arch/*/io.h: remove ioremap_uc in some architectures
ioremap_uc() is only meaningful on old x86-32 systems with the PAT extension, and on ia64 with its slightly unconventional ioremap() behavior. So remove the ioremap_uc() definition in architecutures other than x86 and ia64. These architectures all have asm-generic/io.h included and will have the default ioremap_uc() definition which returns NULL. This changes the existing behaviour, while no need to worry about any breakage because in the only callsite of ioremap_uc(), code has been adjusted to eliminate the impact. Please see atyfb_setup_generic() of drivers/video/fbdev/aty/atyfb_base.c. If any new invocation of ioremap_uc() need be added, please consider using ioremap() intead or adding a ARCH specific version if necessary. CET consists of two related security features: shadow stacks and indirect branch tracking. This series implements just the shadow stack part of this feature, and just for userspace. The main use case for shadow stack is providing protection against return oriented programming attacks. It works by maintaining a secondary (shadow) stack using a special memory type that has protections against modification. When executing a CALL instruction, the processor pushes the return address to both the normal stack and to the special permission shadow stack. Upon RET, the processor pops the shadow stack copy and compares it to the normal stack copy. PCI/sysfs: Move declarations to linux/pci.h
A couple of architectures build the __weak versions of pci_create_resource_files() and pci_remove_resource_files() but don't have prototypes for these, which causes warnings: drivers/pci/pci-sysfs.c:1253:12: error: no previous prototype for 'pci_create_resource_files' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] 1253 | int __weak pci_create_resource_files(struct pci_dev *dev) { return 0; } drivers/pci/pci-sysfs.c:1254:13: error: no previous prototype for 'pci_remove_resource_files' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] 1254 | void __weak pci_remove_resource_files(struct pci_dev *dev) { return; } Move the prototypes from alpha architecture into the global header to avoid these warnings for all of them. locking: remove spin_lock_prefetch
The only remaining consumer is new_inode, where it showed up in 2001 as commit c37fa164f793 ("v2.4.9.9 -> v2.4.9.10") in a historical repo [1] with a changelog which does not mention it. Since then the line got only touched up to keep compiling. While it may have been of benefit back in the day, it is guaranteed to at best not get in the way in the multicore setting -- as the code performs *a lot* of work between the prefetch and actual lock acquire, any contention means the cacheline is already invalid by the time the routine calls spin_lock(). It adds spurious traffic, for short. On top of it prefetch is notoriously tricky to use for single-threaded purposes, making it questionable from the get go. As such, remove it. I admit upfront I did not see value in benchmarking this change, but I can do it if that is deemed appropriate. Removal from new_inode and of the entire thing are in the same patch as requested by Linus, so whatever weird looks can be directed at that guy. mm: Rename arch pte_mkwrite()'s to pte_mkwrite_novma()
The x86 Shadow stack feature includes a new type of memory called shadow stack. This shadow stack memory has some unusual properties, which requires some core mm changes to function properly. One of these unusual properties is that shadow stack memory is writable, but only in limited ways. These limits are applied via a specific PTE bit combination. Nevertheless, the memory is writable, and core mm code will need to apply the writable permissions in the typical paths that call pte_mkwrite(). The goal is to make pte_mkwrite() take a VMA, so that the x86 implementation of it can know whether to create regular writable or shadow stack mappings. But there are a couple of challenges to this. Modifying the signatures of each arch pte_mkwrite() implementation would be error prone because some are generated with macros and would need to be re-implemented. Also, some pte_mkwrite() callers operate on kernel memory without a VMA. So this can be done in a three step process. First pte_mkwrite() can be renamed to pte_mkwrite_novma() in each arch, with a generic pte_mkwrite() added that just calls pte_mkwrite_novma(). Next callers without a VMA can be moved to pte_mkwrite_novma(). And lastly, pte_mkwrite() and all callers can be changed to take/pass a VMA. Start the process by renaming pte_mkwrite() to pte_mkwrite_novma() and adding the pte_mkwrite() wrapper in linux/pgtable.h. Apply the same pattern for pmd_mkwrite(). Since not all archs have a pmd_mkwrite_novma(), create a new arch config HAS_HUGE_PAGE that can be used to tell if pmd_mkwrite() should be defined. Otherwise in the !HAS_HUGE_PAGE cases the compiler would not be able to find pmd_mkwrite_novma(). No functional change. Networking changes for 6.5.
Core ---- - Rework the sendpage & splice implementations. Instead of feeding data into sockets page by page extend sendmsg handlers to support taking a reference on the data, controlled by a new flag called MSG_SPLICE_PAGES. Rework the handling of unexpected-end-of-file to invoke an additional callback instead of trying to predict what the right combination of MORE/NOTLAST flags is. Remove the MSG_SENDPAGE_NOTLAST flag completely. - Implement SCM_PIDFD, a new type of CMSG type analogous to SCM_CREDENTIALS, but it contains pidfd instead of plain pid. - Enable socket busy polling with CONFIG_RT. - Improve reliability and efficiency of reporting for ref_tracker. - Auto-generate a user space C library for various Netlink families. Protocols --------- - Allow TCP to shrink the advertised window when necessary, prevent sk_rcvbuf auto-tuning from growing the window all the way up to tcp_rmem[2]. - Use per-VMA locking for "page-flipping" TCP receive zerocopy. - Prepare TCP for device-to-device data transfers, by making sure that payloads are always attached to skbs as page frags. - Make the backoff time for the first N TCP SYN retransmissions linear. Exponential backoff is unnecessarily conservative. - Create a new MPTCP getsockopt to retrieve all info (MPTCP_FULL_INFO). - Avoid waking up applications using TLS sockets until we have a full record. - Allow using kernel memory for protocol ioctl callbacks, paving the way to issuing ioctls over io_uring. - Add nolocalbypass option to VxLAN, forcing packets to be fully encapsulated even if they are destined for a local IP address. - Make TCPv4 use consistent hash in TIME_WAIT and SYN_RECV. Ensure in-kernel ECMP implementation (e.g. Open vSwitch) select the same link for all packets. Support L4 symmetric hashing in Open vSwitch. - PPPoE: make number of hash bits configurable. - Allow DNS to be overwritten by DHCPACK in the in-kernel DHCP client (ipconfig). - Add layer 2 miss indication and filtering, allowing higher layers (e.g. ACL filters) to make forwarding decisions based on whether packet matched forwarding state in lower devices (bridge). - Support matching on Connectivity Fault Management (CFM) packets. - Hide the "link becomes ready" IPv6 messages by demoting their printk level to debug. - HSR: don't enable promiscuous mode if device offloads the proto. - Support active scanning in IEEE 802.15.4. - Continue work on Multi-Link Operation for WiFi 7. BPF --- - Add precision propagation for subprogs and callbacks. This allows maintaining verification efficiency when subprograms are used, or in fact passing the verifier at all for complex programs, especially those using open-coded iterators. - Improve BPF's {g,s}setsockopt() length handling. Previously BPF assumed the length is always equal to the amount of written data. But some protos allow passing a NULL buffer to discover what the output buffer *should* be, without writing anything. - Accept dynptr memory as memory arguments passed to helpers. - Add routing table ID to bpf_fib_lookup BPF helper. - Support O_PATH FDs in BPF_OBJ_PIN and BPF_OBJ_GET commands. - Drop bpf_capable() check in BPF_MAP_FREEZE command (used to mark maps as read-only). - Show target_{obj,btf}_id in tracing link fdinfo. - Addition of several new kfuncs (most of the names are self-explanatory): - Add a set of new dynptr kfuncs: bpf_dynptr_adjust(), bpf_dynptr_is_null(), bpf_dynptr_is_rdonly(), bpf_dynptr_size() and bpf_dynptr_clone(). - bpf_task_under_cgroup() - bpf_sock_destroy() - force closing sockets - bpf_cpumask_first_and(), rework bpf_cpumask_any*() kfuncs Netfilter --------- - Relax set/map validation checks in nf_tables. Allow checking presence of an entry in a map without using the value. - Increase ip_vs_conn_tab_bits range for 64BIT builds. - Allow updating size of a set. - Improve NAT tuple selection when connection is closing. Driver API ---------- - Integrate netdev with LED subsystem, to allow configuring HW "offloaded" blinking of LEDs based on link state and activity (i.e. packets coming in and out). - Support configuring rate selection pins of SFP modules. - Factor Clause 73 auto-negotiation code out of the drivers, provide common helper routines. - Add more fool-proof helpers for managing lifetime of MDIO devices associated with the PCS layer. - Allow drivers to report advanced statistics related to Time Aware scheduler offload (taprio). - Allow opting out of VF statistics in link dump, to allow more VFs to fit into the message. - Split devlink instance and devlink port operations. Locking changes for v6.5:
- Introduce cmpxchg128() -- aka. the demise of cmpxchg_double(). The cmpxchg128() family of functions is basically & functionally the same as cmpxchg_double(), but with a saner interface: instead of a 6-parameter horror that forced u128 - u64/u64-halves layout details on the interface and exposed users to complexity, fragility & bugs, use a natural 3-parameter interface with u128 types. - Restructure the generated atomic headers, and add kerneldoc comments for all of the generic atomic{,64,_long}_t operations. Generated definitions are much cleaner now, and come with documentation. - Implement lock_set_cmp_fn() on lockdep, for defining an ordering when taking multiple locks of the same type. This gets rid of one use of lockdep_set_novalidate_class() in the bcache code. - Fix raw_cpu_generic_try_cmpxchg() bug due to an unintended variable shadowing generating garbage code on Clang on certain ARM builds. net: core: add getsockopt SO_PEERPIDFD
Add SO_PEERPIDFD which allows to get pidfd of peer socket holder pidfd. This thing is direct analog of SO_PEERCRED which allows to get plain PID. Cc: "David S. scm: add SO_PASSPIDFD and SCM_PIDFD
Implement SCM_PIDFD, a new type of CMSG type analogical to SCM_CREDENTIALS, but it contains pidfd instead of plain pid, which allows programmers not to care about PID reuse problem. We mask SO_PASSPIDFD feature if CONFIG_UNIX is not builtin because it depends on a pidfd_prepare() API which is not exported to the kernel modules. Idea comes from UAPI kernel group: https://uapi-group.org/kernel-features/ Big thanks to Christian Brauner and Lennart Poettering for productive discussions about this. Cc: "David S. locking/atomic: treewide: delete arch_atomic_*() kerneldoc
Currently several architectures have kerneldoc comments for arch_atomic_*(), which is unhelpful as these live in a shared namespace where they clash, and the arch_atomic_*() ops are now an implementation detail of the raw_atomic_*() ops, which no-one should use those directly. Delete the kerneldoc comments for arch_atomic_*(), along with pseudo-kerneldoc comments which are in the correct style but are missing the leading '/**' necessary to be true kerneldoc comments. There should be no functional change as a result of this patch. locking/atomic: make atomic*_{cmp,}xchg optional
Most architectures define the atomic/atomic64 xchg and cmpxchg operations in terms of arch_xchg and arch_cmpxchg respectfully. Add fallbacks for these cases and remove the trivial cases from arch code. On some architectures the existing definitions are kept as these are used to build other arch_atomic*() operations.
