asm-generic: introduce text-patching.h
Several architectures support text patching, but they name the header files that declare patching functions differently. Make all such headers consistently named text-patching.h and add an empty header in asm-generic for architectures that do not support text patching. asm-generic: provide generic page_to_phys and phys_to_page implementations
page_to_phys is duplicated by all architectures, and from some strange reason placed in <asm/io.h> where it doesn't fit at all. phys_to_page is only provided by a few architectures despite having a lot of open coded users. Provide generic versions in <asm-generic/memory_model.h> to make these helpers more easily usable. Note with this patch powerpc loses the CONFIG_DEBUG_VIRTUAL pfn_valid check. It will be added back in a generic version later. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> |

move asm/unaligned.h to linux/unaligned.h

asm-generic cleanups for 6.8
A series from Baoquan He cleans up the asm-generic/io.h to remove the ioremap_uc() definition from everything except x86, which still needs it for pre-PAT systems. This series notably contains a patch from Jiaxun Yang that converts MIPS to use asm-generic/io.h like every other architecture does, enabling future cleanups. Some of my own patches fix -Wmissing-prototype warnings in architecture specific code across several architectures. This is now needed as the warning is enabled by default. There are still some remaining warnings in minor platforms, but the series should catch most of the widely used ones make them more consistent with one another. David McKay fixes a bug in __generic_cmpxchg_local() when this is used on 64-bit architectures. This could currently only affect parisc64 and sparc64. Additional cleanups address from Linus Walleij, Uwe Kleine-König, Thomas Huth, and Kefeng Wang help reduce unnecessary inconsistencies between architectures. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEiK/NIGsWEZVxh/FrYKtH/8kJUicFAmWeak8ACgkQYKtH/8kJ UidSiQ/+LL1WTO9d3Zx5HI0GGGjaIYpYs6jUNSf9Y5GPQiOrvjfEWj7CU11/4vxl GlQRpRyncYm8Eiz0Qu+aNxZFiiMah8Uful75yfbX8P1L4EPTbAYNDjkyNJrTjIAK jPK4sl8awIrapOeFUz++PsEj22R/4Is4f0mo+CqoCkL5RKlHe5oFdXzcwjmds4yK CvU6Ldn+M7FZ3EItMdjXaB3D3HS9uictFiO5JByZY8p+IcqgNRI/iHNnZIMsltJ+ XjDi0DG+x4jCj6teElSchw7AofE4OcNSP3xbR1PLKv6+xBLGYaAGZhNuPTz88eV/ Gj0loDQrrR5McGUfDBRHK9zN2Jd0O/FKnfh9kLOt1FLFyGPvC78Q/2HkpVCjbBr2 Pr1aqhLDHA+tGNSsThsV8RUa8/tiEnxAki43tfBFS3SEKhtQsTm2g1z4miwbE3p0 BJIrSgTqrP/SBq7a9z/thPrkzdZcNuA9FUETTbaMeUlJS51n1V9E5A1t7sOG7jaI vV/gbuR6FjvD49mTyQiOSCt3V4ygRqgN1Q+C4QM8WLqq2keUq0AhGodquv8F78in J3x2j2r27lHY7jKf8B0dua/JXAsF20u8qD6yDQ9ymkjt/MWhGXBgK0jpT7RTIuMS e2jmTywUVD4UohAcx3inkOojUhIJ5KDB0I4Pzv4zWcHNbyFNKcY= =4VQl -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-6.8' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull asm-generic cleanups from Arnd Bergmann: "A series from Baoquan He cleans up the asm-generic/io.h to remove the ioremap_uc() definition from everything except x86, which still needs it for pre-PAT systems. CET consists of two related security features: shadow stacks and indirect branch tracking. This series implements just the shadow stack part of this feature, and just for userspace. The main use case for shadow stack is providing protection against return oriented programming attacks. It works by maintaining a secondary (shadow) stack using a special memory type that has protections against modification. When executing a CALL instruction, the processor pushes the return address to both the normal stack and to the special permission shadow stack. Upon RET, the processor pops the shadow stack copy and compares it to the normal stack copy. microblaze: Make virt_to_pfn() a static inline
Making virt_to_pfn() a static inline taking a strongly typed (const void *) makes the contract of a passing a pointer of that type to the function explicit and exposes any misuse of the macro virt_to_pfn() acting polymorphic and accepting many types such as (void *), (unitptr_t) or (unsigned long) as arguments without warnings. Move the function down in the file so __pa() exists in our scope, and it compiles. This in turn requires moving __pa() as it depends on __virt_to_phys() that was below. (Lazy macro evaluation conflicts with strict function ordering.) Make a symmetric change to pfn_to_virt() so we have type checking both ways. Due to this the <asm/page.h> file being included into some assembly files, some further inclusion guards are needed to make sure assembly keeps compiling. mm: Rename arch pte_mkwrite()'s to pte_mkwrite_novma()
The x86 Shadow stack feature includes a new type of memory called shadow stack. This shadow stack memory has some unusual properties, which requires some core mm changes to function properly. One of these unusual properties is that shadow stack memory is writable, but only in limited ways. These limits are applied via a specific PTE bit combination. Nevertheless, the memory is writable, and core mm code will need to apply the writable permissions in the typical paths that call pte_mkwrite(). The goal is to make pte_mkwrite() take a VMA, so that the x86 implementation of it can know whether to create regular writable or shadow stack mappings. But there are a couple of challenges to this. Modifying the signatures of each arch pte_mkwrite() implementation would be error prone because some are generated with macros and would need to be re-implemented. Also, some pte_mkwrite() callers operate on kernel memory without a VMA. So this can be done in a three step process. First pte_mkwrite() can be renamed to pte_mkwrite_novma() in each arch, with a generic pte_mkwrite() added that just calls pte_mkwrite_novma(). Next callers without a VMA can be moved to pte_mkwrite_novma(). And lastly, pte_mkwrite() and all callers can be changed to take/pass a VMA. Start the process by renaming pte_mkwrite() to pte_mkwrite_novma() and adding the pte_mkwrite() wrapper in linux/pgtable.h. Apply the same pattern for pmd_mkwrite(). Since not all archs have a pmd_mkwrite_novma(), create a new arch config HAS_HUGE_PAGE that can be used to tell if pmd_mkwrite() should be defined. Otherwise in the !HAS_HUGE_PAGE cases the compiler would not be able to find pmd_mkwrite_novma(). No functional change. microblaze/mm: support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE
Let's support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE by stealing one bit from the type. Generic MM currently only uses 5 bits for the type (MAX_SWAPFILES_SHIFT), so the stolen bit is effectively unused. The shift by 2 when converting between PTE and arch-specific swap entry makes the swap PTE layout a little bit harder to decipher. While at it, drop the comment from paulus---copy-and-paste leftover from powerpc where we actually have _PAGE_HASHPTE---and mask the type in __swp_entry_to_pte() as well. mm: remove kern_addr_valid() completely
Most architectures (except arm64/x86/sparc) simply return 1 for kern_addr_valid(), which is only used in read_kcore(), and it calls copy_from_kernel_nofault() which could check whether the address is a valid kernel address. So as there is no need for kern_addr_valid(), let's remove it. microblaze: Add support for error injection
To inject the error using the tmr inject IP reset vectors need to be placed in lmb(bram) due to the limitation in HW when this code runs out of DDR. Below code adds the error inject code to the .init.ivt section to copy it in machine_early_init to lmb/Bram location. C_BASE_VECTORS which allow moving reset vectors out of 0 location is not currently supported by Microblaze architecture, that's why all the time reset vectors with injection code is all the time copied to address 0. As of now getting this functionality working CPU switches to real mode and simply jumps to bram, which causes triggering of fault which continues to call_xmb_manager_break break handler which will at the end calls the error count callback function and performs recovery. microblaze: Add xmb_manager_register function
Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) Microblaze solution provides soft error injection, detection, correction and recovery for Microblaze cores in the system. The Xilinx/AMD Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) solution in Vivado provides all the necessary building blocks to implement a redundant triplicated MicroBlaze subsystem. This processing subsystem is fault-tolerant and continues to operate nominally after encountering an error. Together with the capability to detect and recover from errors, the implementation ensures the reliability of the entire subsystem. When the break vector gets asserted because of error injection, the break signal must be blocked before exiting from the break handler, This commit adds support for xmb_manager_register api which updates the TMR manager address and control register and error count and reset callback function arguments, which will be used by the break handler to block the break and call the error count callback function and reset callback function. arch/*/: remove CONFIG_VIRT_TO_BUS
All architecture-independent users of virt_to_bus() and bus_to_virt() have been fixed to use the dma mapping interfaces or have been removed now. This means the definitions on most architectures, and the CONFIG_VIRT_TO_BUS symbol are now obsolete and can be removed. The only exceptions to this are a few network and scsi drivers for m68k Amiga and VME machines and ppc32 Macintosh. These drivers work correctly with the old interfaces and are probably not worth changing. On alpha and parisc, virt_to_bus() were still used in asm/floppy.h. alpha can use isa_virt_to_bus() like x86 does, and parisc can just open-code the virt_to_phys() here, as this is architecture specific code. I tried updating the bus-virt-phys-mapping.rst documentation, which started as an email from Linus to explain some details of the Linux-2.0 driver interfaces. The bits about virt_to_bus() were declared obsolete backin 2000, and the rest is not all that relevant any more, so in the end I just decided to remove the file completely. microblaze: Use simple memset implementation from lib/string.c
On microblaze systems which are not using OPT_LIB_FUNCTION only simple
memset is used. This function is already implemented in lib/string.c that's
why it should be used instead.

asm-generic updates for 5.18
There are three sets of updates for 5.18 in the asm-generic tree: - The set_fs()/get_fs() infrastructure gets removed for good. This was already gone from all major architectures, but now we can finally remove it everywhere, which loses some particularly tricky and error-prone code. There is a small merge conflict against a parisc cleanup, the solution is to use their new version. - The nds32 architecture ends its tenure in the Linux kernel. The hardware is still used and the code is in reasonable shape, but the mainline port is not actively maintained any more, as all remaining users are thought to run vendor kernels that would never be updated to a future release. There are some obvious conflicts against changes to the removed files. - A series from Masahiro Yamada cleans up some of the uapi header files to pass the compile-time checks. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEo6/YBQwIrVS28WGKmmx57+YAGNkFAmI69BsACgkQmmx57+YA GNn/zA//f4d5VTT0ThhRxRWTu9BdThGHoB8TUcY7iOhbsWu0X/913NItRC3UeWNl IdmisaXgVtirg1dcC2pWUmrcHdoWOCEGfK4+Zr2NhSWfuZDWvODHK9pGWk4WLnhe cQgUNBvIuuAMryGtrOBwHPO4TpfCyy2ioeVP36ZfcsWXdDxTrqfaq/56mk3sxIP6 sUTk1UEjut9NG4C9xIIvcSU50R3l6LryQE/H9kyTLtaSvfvTOvprcVYCq0GPmSzo DtQ1Wwa9zbJ+4EqoMiP5RrgQwWvOTg2iRByLU8ytwlX3e/SEF0uihvMv1FQbL8zG G8RhGUOKQSEhaBfc3lIkm8GpOVPh0uHzB6zhn7daVmAWtazRD2Nu59BMjipa+ims a8Z58iHH7jRAnKeEkVZqXKb1CEiUxaQx/IeVPzN4QlwMhDtwrI76LY7ZJ1zCqTGY ENG0yRLav1XselYBslOYXGtOEWcY5EZPWqLyWbp4P9vz2g0Fe0gZxoIOvPmNQc89 QnfXpCt7vm/DGkyO255myu08GOLeMkisVqUIzLDB9avlym5mri7T7vk9abBa2YyO CRpTL5gl1/qKPWuH1UI5mvhT+sbbBE2SUHSuy84btns39ZKKKynwCtdu+hSQkKLE h9pV30Gf1cLTD4JAE0RWlUgOmbBLVp34loTOexQj4MrLM1noOnw= =vtCN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-5.18' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull asm-generic updates from Arnd Bergmann: "There are three sets of updates for 5.18 in the asm-generic tree: - The set_fs()/get_fs() infrastructure gets removed for good.
