ALSA: doc: Use DEFINE_SIMPLE_DEV_PM_OPS()
Use the new DEFINE_SIMPLE_DEV_PM_OPS() instead of SIMPLE_DEV_PM_OPS() for the example code. This allows us to drop CONFIG_PM_SLEEP ifdefs. While we're at it, expand the driver definition instead of passing directly via .driver.pm field. This seems to be a more common pattern. ASoC: dt-bindings: google,sc7280-herobrine: Drop bouncing @codeaurora
The servers for the @codeaurora domain have long been retired and any messages sent there bounce. Srinivasa Rao Mandadapu has left the company and there does not appear to be an updated address to suggest, so drop Srinivasa as maintainer of the binding. The binding still appears to be maintined as Judy is listed. ASoC: sun4i-spdif: Add Allwinner H616 compatible
The SPDIF hardware block found in the H616 SoC has the same layout as the one found in the H6 SoC, except that it is missing the receiver side. Add a new compatible string for it. ASoC: sun4i-spdif: Fix requirements for H6
When the H6 was added to the bindings, only the TX DMA channel was
added. As the hardware supports both transmit and receive functions,
the binding is missing the RX DMA channel and is thus incorrect.
Also, the reset control was not made mandatory.
Add the RX DMA channel for SPDIF on H6 by removing the compatible from
the list of compatibles that should only have a TX DMA channel. And add
the H6 compatible to the list of compatibles that require the reset
control to be present.

Worth mentioning are three regressions. One of the nouveau fixes in 6.7 for a serious deadlock had side effects, so I guess we will bring back the deadlock until I can figure out what should be done properly. There was a scheduler regression vs amdgpu which was reported in a few places and is now fixed. There was an i915 vs simpledrm problem resulting in black screens, that is reverted also. I'll be working on a proper nouveau fix, it kinda looks like one of those cases where someone tried to use an atomic where they should have probably used a lock, but I'll see. fb: - fix simpledrm/i915 regression by reverting change scheduler: - fix regression affecting amdgpu users due to sched draining nouveau: - revert 6.7 deadlock fix as it has side effects dp: - fix documentation warning ttm: - fix dummy page read on some platforms bridge: - anx7625 suspend fix - sii902x: fix probing and audio registration - parade-ps8640: fix suspend of bridge, aux fixes - samsung-dsim: avoid using FORCE_STOP_STATE panel: - simple add missing bus flags - fix samsung-s6d7aa0 flags amdgpu: - AC/DC power supply tracking fix - Don't show invalid vram vendor data - SMU 13.0.x fixes - GART fix for umr on systems without VRAM - GFX 10/11 UNORD_DISPATCH fixes - IPS display fixes (required for S0ix on some platforms) - Misc fixes i915: - DSI sequence revert to fix GitLab #10071 and DP test-pattern fix - Drop -Wstringop-overflow (broken on GCC11) ivpu: - fix recovery/reset support - improve submit ioctl stability - fix dev open/close races on unbind - PLL disable reset fix - deprecate context priority param - improve debug buffer logging - disable buffer sharing across VPU contexts - free buffer sgt on unbind - fix missing lock around shmem vmap - add better boot diagnostics - add more debug prints around mapping - dump MMU events in case of timeout v3d: - NULL ptr dereference fix exynos: - fix stack usage - fix incorrect type - fix dt typo - fix gsc runtime resume xe: - Make an ops struct static - Fix an implicit 0 to NULL conversion - A couple of 32-bit fixes - A migration coherency fix for Lunar Lake. - An error path vm id leak fix - Remove PVC references in kunit tests" * tag 'drm-fixes-2024-01-27' of git://anongit.freedesktop.org/drm/drm: (66 commits) Revert "nouveau: push event block/allowing out of the fence context" drm: bridge: samsung-dsim: Don't use FORCE_STOP_STATE drm/sched: Drain all entities in DRM sched run job worker drm/amd/display: "Enable IPS by default" drm/amd: Add a DC debug mask for IPS drm/amd/display: Disable ips before dc interrupt setting drm/amd/display: Replay + IPS + ABM in Full Screen VPB drm/amd/display: Add IPS checks before dcn register access drm/amd/display: Add Replay IPS register for DMUB command table drm/amd/display: Allow IPS2 during Replay drm/amdgpu/gfx11: set UNORD_DISPATCH in compute MQDs drm/amdgpu/gfx10: set UNORD_DISPATCH in compute MQDs drm/amd/amdgpu: Assign GART pages to AMD device mapping drm/amd/pm: Fetch current power limit from FW drm/amdgpu: Fix null pointer dereference drm/amdgpu: Show vram vendor only if available drm/amd/pm: update the power cap setting drm/amdgpu: Avoid fetching vram vendor information drm/amdgpu/pm: Fix the power source flag error drm/amd/display: Fix uninitialized variable usage in core_link_ 'read_dpcd() & write_dpcd()' functions ... |

Several fixups
- Minor fix in `drm/exynos: gsc: gsc_runtime_resume` . The patch ensures `clk_disable_unprepare()` is called on the first element of `ctx->clocks` array. This issue was identified by the Linux Verification Center. - Fix excessive stack usage in `fimd_win_set_pixfmt()` in `drm/exynos` . The issue, highlighted by gcc, involved an unnecessary on-stack copy of the large `exynos_drm_plane` structure, now replaced with a pointer. - Fix an incorrect type issue in `exynos_drm_fimd.c` module . docs: admin-guide: remove obsolete advice related to SLAB allocator
Commit 1db9d06aaa55 ("mm/slab: remove CONFIG_SLAB from all Kconfig and Makefile") removes the config SLAB and makes the SLUB allocator the only default allocator in the kernel. ovl: mark xwhiteouts directory with overlay.opaque='x'
An opaque directory cannot have xwhiteouts, so instead of marking an
xwhiteouts directory with a new xattr, overload overlay.opaque xattr
for marking both opaque dir ('y') and xwhiteouts dir ('x').
This is more efficient as the overlay.opaque xattr is checked during
lookup of directory anyway.
This also prevents unnecessary checking the xattr when reading a
directory without xwhiteouts, i.e. most of the time.
Note that the xwhiteouts marker is not checked on the upper layer and
on the last layer in lowerstack, where xwhiteouts are not expected.

Both afs and 9p are ported. cifs is ready as well but the patches are way bigger and will be routed separately once this is merged. That will remove lots of code as well. The overal goal is to get high-level I/O and knowledge of the page cache and ouf of the filesystem drivers. This includes knowledge about the existence of pages and folios The pull request converts afs and 9p. This removes about 800 lines of code from afs and 300 from 9p. For 9p it is now possible to do writes in larger than a page chunks. Additionally, multipage folio support can be turned on for 9p. Separate patches exist for cifs removing another 2000+ lines. I've included detailed information in the individual pulls I took. Summary: - Add NFS-style (and Ceph-style) locking around DIO vs buffered I/O calls to prevent these from happening at the same time. - Support for direct and unbuffered I/O. - Support for write-through caching in the page cache. - O_*SYNC and RWF_*SYNC writes use write-through rather than writing to the page cache and then flushing afterwards. - Support for write-streaming. - Support for write grouping. - Skip reads for which the server could only return zeros or EOF. - The fscache module is now part of the netfs library and the corresponding maintainer entry is updated. - Some helpers from the fscache subsystem are renamed to mark them as belonging to the netfs library. - Follow-up fixes for the netfs library. - Follow-up fixes for the 9p conversion" * tag 'vfs-6.8.netfs' of gitolite.kernel.org:pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/vfs: (50 commits) netfs: Fix wrong #ifdef hiding wait cachefiles: Fix signed/unsigned mixup netfs: Fix the loop that unmarks folios after writing to the cache netfs: Fix interaction between write-streaming and cachefiles culling netfs: Count DIO writes netfs: Mark netfs_unbuffered_write_iter_locked() static netfs: Fix proc/fs/fscache symlink to point to "netfs" not "../netfs" netfs: Rearrange netfs_io_subrequest to put request pointer first 9p: Use length of data written to the server in preference to error 9p: Do a couple of cleanups 9p: Fix initialisation of netfs_inode for 9p cachefiles: Fix __cachefiles_prepare_write() 9p: Use netfslib read/write_iter afs: Use the netfs write helpers netfs: Export the netfs_sreq tracepoint netfs: Optimise away reads above the point at which there can be no data netfs: Implement a write-through caching option netfs: Provide a launder_folio implementation netfs: Provide a writepages implementation netfs, cachefiles: Pass upper bound length to allow expansion ... |

This cycle, I2C removes the currently unused CLASS_DDC support
(controllers set the flag, but there is no client to use it). Also, CLASS_SPD support gets simplified to prepare removal in the future. Class based instantiation is not recommended these days anyhow. Furthermore, I2C core now creates a debugfs directory per I2C adapter. Current bus driver users were converted to use it. Then, there are also quite some driver updates. Standing out are patches for the wmt-driver which is refactored to support more variants. This is because it turned out that some legacy GPIO interfaces - that need to translate a number from the global GPIO numberspace to the address of the relevant descriptor, thus running a GPIO device lookup and taking the GPIO device list lock - are still used in old code from atomic context resulting in "scheduling while atomic" errors. I'll try to make the read-only part of the list access entirely lockless using SRCU but this will take some time so let's go back to the old global spinlock for now. tracing updates for 6.8:
- Allow kernel trace instance creation to specify what events are created Inside the kernel, a subsystem may create a tracing instance that it can use to send events to user space. This sub-system may not care about the thousands of events that exist in eventfs. Allow the sub-system to specify what sub-systems of events it cares about, and only those events are exposed to this instance. - Allow the ring buffer to be broken up into bigger sub-buffers than just the architecture page size. A new tracefs file called "buffer_subbuf_size_kb" is created. The user can now specify a minimum size the sub-buffer may be in kilobytes. If the user writes in 10, it will change the size to be 4 pages on x86 (16K), as that is the next available size that can hold 10K pages. - Update the debug output when a corrupt time is detected in the ring buffer. If the ring buffer detects inconsistent timestamps, there's a debug config options that will dump the contents of the meta data of the sub-buffer that is used for debugging. Add some more information to this dump that helps with debugging. - Add more timestamp debugging checks (only triggers when the config is enabled) - Increase the trace_seq iterator to 2 page sizes. - Allow strings written into tracefs_marker to be larger. Up to just under 2 page sizes (based on what trace_seq can hold). - Increase the trace_maker_raw write to be as big as a sub-buffer can hold. - Remove 32 bit time stamp logic, now that the rb_time_cmpxchg() has been removed. - More selftests were added. - Some code clean ups as well. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iIoEABYIADIWIQRRSw7ePDh/lE+zeZMp5XQQmuv6qgUCZZ8p3BQccm9zdGVkdEBn b29kbWlzLm9yZwAKCRAp5XQQmuv6ql2GAQDZg/zlFEiJHyTfWbCIE8pA3T5xbzKo 26TNxIZAxJJZpQEAvGFU5Smy14pG6soEoVMp8B6ZOANbqU8VVamhOL+r+Qw= =0OYG -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'trace-v6.8' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/trace/linux-trace Pull tracing updates from Steven Rostedt: - Allow kernel trace instance creation to specify what events are created Inside the kernel, a subsystem may create a tracing instance that it can use to send events to user space. This does not include the actual KVM-side support which will come from the KVM folks. The TDX host interactions with kexec also needs to be ironed out before this is ready for prime time, so this code is currently Kconfig'd off when kexec is on. The majority of the code here is the kernel telling the TDX module which memory to protect and handing some additional memory over to it to use to store TDX module metadata. That sounds pretty simple, but the TDX architecture is rather flexible and it takes quite a bit of back-and-forth to say, "just protect all memory, please." There is also some code tacked on near the end of the series to handle a hardware erratum. The erratum can make software bugs such as a kernel write to TDX-protected memory cause a machine check and masquerade as a real hardware failure. The erratum handling watches out for these and tries to provide nicer user errors" * tag 'x86_tdx_for_6.8' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip: (21 commits) x86/virt/tdx: Make TDX host depend on X86_MCE x86/virt/tdx: Disable TDX host support when kexec is enabled Documentation/x86: Add documentation for TDX host support x86/mce: Differentiate real hardware #MCs from TDX erratum ones x86/cpu: Detect TDX partial write machine check erratum x86/virt/tdx: Handle TDX interaction with sleep and hibernation x86/virt/tdx: Initialize all TDMRs x86/virt/tdx: Configure global KeyID on all packages x86/virt/tdx: Configure TDX module with the TDMRs and global KeyID x86/virt/tdx: Designate reserved areas for all TDMRs x86/virt/tdx: Allocate and set up PAMTs for TDMRs x86/virt/tdx: Fill out TDMRs to cover all TDX memory regions x86/virt/tdx: Add placeholder to construct TDMRs to cover all TDX memory regions x86/virt/tdx: Get module global metadata for module initialization x86/virt/tdx: Use all system memory when initializing TDX module as TDX memory x86/virt/tdx: Add skeleton to enable TDX on demand x86/virt/tdx: Add SEAMCALL error printing for module initialization x86/virt/tdx: Handle SEAMCALL no entropy error in common code x86/virt/tdx: Make INTEL_TDX_HOST depend on X86_X2APIC x86/virt/tdx: Define TDX supported page sizes as macros ... |
