e199bf52ff soundwire: stream: fix NULL pointer dereference for multi_link
If bus is marked as multi_link, but number of masters in the stream is
not higher than bus->hw_sync_min_links (bus->multi_link && m_rt_count >=
bus->hw_sync_min_links), bank switching should not happen. The first
part of do_bank_switch() code properly takes these conditions into
account, but second part (sdw_ml_sync_bank_switch()) relies purely on
bus->multi_link property. This is not balanced and leads to NULL
pointer dereference:

Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 0000000000000000

a7ae05ef35 soundwire: qcom: set controller id to hw master id
Qualcomm Soundwire Controllers IP version after 1.3 have a dedicated
master id register which will provide a unique id value for each
controller instance. Use this value instead of artificially generated
value from idr. Versions 1.3 and below only have one instance of
soundwire controller which does no have this register, so let them use
value from idr.

8a8a9ac8a4 soundwire: fix initializing sysfs for same devices on different buses
If same devices with same device IDs are present on different soundwire
buses, the probe fails due to conflicting device names and sysfs
entries:

sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/bus/soundwire/devices/sdw:0:0217:0204:00:0'

The link ID is 0 for both devices, so they should be differentiated by
the controller ID. Add the controller ID so, the device names and sysfs entries look
like:

  sdw:1:0:0217:0204:00:0 -> ../../../devices/platform/soc@0/6ab0000.soundwire-controller/sdw-master-1-0/sdw:1:0:0217:0204:00:0

[PLB changes: use bus->controller_id instead of bus->id]

6543ac13c6 soundwire: bus: introduce controller_id
The existing SoundWire support misses a clear Controller/Manager
hiearchical definition to deal with all variants across SOC vendors.

a) Intel platforms have one controller with 4 or more Managers.
b) AMD platforms have two controllers with one Manager each, but due
to BIOS issues use two different link_id values within the scope of a
single controller.
c) QCOM platforms have one or more controller with one Manager each.

This patch adds a 'controller_id' which can be set by higher
levels. If assigned to -1, the controller_id will be set to the
system-unique IDA-assigned bus->id.

The main change is that the bus->id is no longer used for any device
name, which makes the definition completely predictable and not
dependent on any enumeration order. The bus->id is only used to insert
the Managers in the stream rt context.

ff435da4cc soundwire: bus: improve error handling for clock stop prepare/deprepare
The same logic is used for clock stop prepare and deprepare, and
having different logs for the two steps helps identify problems.

In addition, when the "NotFinished" bit remains set, the error
handling is not quite right:

a) for the clock stop prepare, the error is handled at the caller
level, and the error is ignored: there's no good reason to prevent the
pm_runtime suspend from happening. Throwing an error that is later
ignored is confusing.

b) for the clock stop deprepare, the error is ignored in bus.c and a
dev_warn() log shown. Throwing an error is also alarming users for no
good reason.

For both cases, demoting the error to dev_dbg() makes more sense.

5d78c7d684 soundwire: qcom: use newer link status tregister on v2.0.0
Soundwire v2.0.0 comes with a new register LINK_STATUS for the
FRAME_GEN_ENABLED field (bit indicating that an active frame is
running). The old register COMP_STATUS is still there and still works,
although the new one is preferred in downstream sources. Probably
because it allows to choose Soundwire instance per CPU. Most of the
code allowing to use new register for Soundwire v2.0.0 was already there
as part of commit 312355a6a9 ("soundwire: qcom: add support for v2.0.0

function. This should not have functional impact, because the old
register still behaves correctly.

12a95123bf soundwire: bus: Allow SoundWire peripherals to register IRQ handlers
Currently the in-band alerts for SoundWire peripherals can only
be communicated to the driver through the interrupt_callback
function. This however is slightly inconvenient for devices that wish
to share IRQ handling code between SoundWire and I2C/SPI, the later
would normally register an IRQ handler with the IRQ subsystem. However
there is no reason the SoundWire in-band IRQs can not also be
communicated as an actual IRQ to the driver.

Add support for SoundWire peripherals to register a normal IRQ
handler to receive SoundWire in-band alerts, allowing code to be
shared across control buses. Note that we allow users to use both the
interrupt_callback and the IRQ handler, this is useful for devices
which must clear additional chip specific SoundWire registers that are
not a part of the normal IRQ flow, or the SoundWire specification.

e66f91a2d1 soundwire: intel_auxdevice: add hybrid IDA-based device_number allocation
The IDA-based allocation is useful to simplify debug, but it was also
introduced as a prerequisite to deal with the Intel Lunar Lake
hardware programming sequences: the wake-ups have to be handled with a
system-unique SDI address at the HDaudio controller level.

At the time, the restriction introduced by the IDA to 8 devices total
seemed perfectly fine, but recently hardware vendors created
configurations with more than 8 devices.

Add a new allocation strategy to allow for more than 8 devices using
information on the type of devices, and only use the IDA-based
allocation for devices capable of generating a wake.

In theory the information on wake capabilities should come from
firmware, but none of the existing ACPI tables provide it. The drivers
set the 'wake_capable' property, but this cannot be used reliably: if
the driver probe happens *after* the enumeration, then that property
is not initialized yet. Trying to modify the device_number on-the-fly
proved to be an impossible task generating race conditions left and
right.

The only reliable work-around to control the enumeration is to add a
quirk table. It's ugly but until platform firmware improves, hopefully as a
result of MIPI/SDCA stardization, we can expect that quirk table to
grow for each new headset or microphone codec.

f903128811 soundWire: intel_auxdevice: resume 'sdw-master' on startup and system resume
The SoundWire bus is handled with a dedicated device, which is placed
between the Intel auxiliary device and peripheral devices, e.g.

soundwire_intel.link.0/sdw-master-0/sdw:0:025d:0711:01

The functionality of this 'sdw-master' device is limited, specifically
for pm_runtime the ASoC framework will not rely on
pm_runtime_get_sync() since it does not register any components. It
will only change status thanks to the parent-child relationship which
guarantees that the 'sdw-master' device will be pm_runtime resumed
before any peripheral device.

However on startup and system resume it's possible that only the
auxiliary device is pm_runtime active, and the peripheral will only
become active during its io_init routine, leading to another
occurrence of the error reported by the pm_runtime framework:

rt711 sdw:0:025d:0711:00: runtime PM trying to activate child device
sdw:0:025d:0711:00 but parent (sdw-master-0) is not active

This patch suggests aligning the sdw-master device status to that of
the auxiliary device. The difference between the two is completely
notional and their pm_status shouldn't be different during the startup
and system resume steps.

This problem was exposed by recent changes in the timing of the bus
reset, but was present in this driver since we introduced pm_runtime
support.

3d71f43f8a soundwire: intel_auxdevice: enable pm_runtime earlier on startup
As soon as the bus starts, physical peripheral devices may report as
ATTACHED and set their status with pm_runtime_set_active() in their
update_status()/io_init().

This is problematic with the existing code, since the parent
pm_runtime status is changed to "active" after starting the bus. This
creates a time window where the pm_runtime framework can report an
issue, e.g.

"rt711 sdw:0:025d:0711:00: runtime PM trying to activate child device
sdw:0:025d:0711:00 but parent (sdw-master-0) is not active"

This patch enables runtime_pm earlier to make sure the auxiliary
device is pm_runtime active after powering-up, but before starting the
bus.

This problem was exposed by recent changes in the timing of the bus
reset, but was present in this driver since we introduced pm_runtime
support.

3f92da3ea4 soundwire: Explicitly include correct DT includes
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate
of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus.
As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they
"temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h

files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and
replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to

c40d6b3249 soundwire: fix enumeration completion
The soundwire subsystem uses two completion structures that allow
drivers to wait for soundwire device to become enumerated on the bus and
initialised by their drivers, respectively.

The code implementing the signalling is currently broken as it does not
signal all current and future waiters and also uses the wrong
reinitialisation function, which can potentially lead to memory
corruption if there are still waiters on the queue.

Not signalling future waiters specifically breaks sound card probe
deferrals as codec drivers can not tell that the soundwire device is
already attached when being reprobed. Some codec runtime PM
implementations suffer from similar problems as waiting for enumeration
during resume can also timeout despite the device already having been
enumerated.

a4857d1afd soundwire: stream: Make master_list ordered to prevent deadlocks
Always add buses to the stream->master_list in a fixed order.
The unique bus->id is used to order the adding of buses to the
list.

This prevents lockdep asserts and possible deadlocks on streams
that have multiple buses.

sdw_acquire_bus_lock() takes bus_lock in the order that buses
are listed in stream->master_list. do_bank_switch() takes all
the msg_lock in the same order.

To prevent a lockdep assert, and a possible real deadlock, the
relative order of taking these mutexes must always be the same.

For example, if a stream takes the mutexes in the order
(bus0, bus1) lockdep will assert if another stream takes them
in the order (bus1, bus0).

More complex relative ordering will also assert, for example
if two streams take (bus0, bus1) and (bus1, bus2), then a third
stream takes (bus2, bus0).

Previously sdw_stream_add_master() simply added the given bus
to the end of the list, requiring the caller to guarantee that
buses are added in a fixed order. This isn't reasonable or
necessary - it's an internal implementation detail that should
not be exposed by the API. It doesn't really make sense when
there could be multiple independent calling drivers, to say
"you must add your buses in the same order as a different driver,
that you don't know about, added them".

Give the bus_lock and msg_lock of each bus a different unique key
so that it is possible to acquire the locks of multiple buses
without lockdep asserting a possible deadlock.

Using mutex_init() to initialize a mutex gives all those mutexes
the same lock class. Lockdep checking treats it as an error to
attempt to take a mutex while already holding a mutex of the same
class. This causes a lockdep assert when sdw_acquire_bus_lock()
attempts to lock multiple buses, and when do_bank_switch() takes
multiple msg_lock.

ffc363d970 soundwire: intel/cadence: update hardware reset sequence
Combining hardware reset with the multi-link mode leads to a shortened
hardware reset pattern observed on the bus.

The updated hardware programming sequence is to first enable the clock
with the sync_arm/sync_go pattern, and only in a second step to issue
the hardware reset sequence. Since there is no longer a dependency
between sync_arm/sync_go and hw_reset, the behavior of
sdw_cdns_exit_reset() is changed to wait for the self-clearing
CONFIG_UPDATE to go back to zero,

1ec33e22b8 soundwire: amd: Improve error message in remove callback
Returning an error code in the remove callback yields to an error
message

remove callback returned a non-zero value. This will be ignored.

After that the device is removed anyhow. Improve the error message to at
least say what the actual problem is. While touching that code, convert
the driver to the .remove_new() callback which returns no value with the
same effect as returning zero in a .remove() callback.

As the return value is ignored by the core the only effect of this patch
is to improve the error message. (And the motivating effect is that
there is one less driver using .remove().)

Start from ACE1.x, DOAISE is added to AC timing control
register bit 5, it combines with DOAIS to get effective
timing, and has the default value 1.

The current code fills DOAIS, DACTQE and DODS bits to a
variable initialized to zero, and updates the variable
to AC timing control register. With this operation, We
change DOAISE to 0, and force a much more aggressive
timing. The timing is even unable to form a working
waveform on SDA pin on Meteorlake.

This patch uses read-modify-write operation for the AC
timing control register access, thus makes sure those
bits not supposed and intended to change are not touched.

When a peripheral reports as ATTACHED, the manager may need to follow
a programming sequence, e.g. to assign DMA resources and/or assign a

This patch adds an optional callback, which will be invoked every time
the peripheral attaches. This might be overkill in some scenarios, and
one could argue that this should be invoked only on the first
attachment. The bus does not however track this first attachment with
any existing state-mirroring variable, and using dev_num_sticky would
not work across suspend-resume cycles.

9420c9719f soundwire: bus: Don't filter slave alerts
It makes sense to have only a single point responsible for ensuring
that all currently pending IRQs are handled. The current code in
sdw_handle_slave_alerts confusingly splits this process in two. This
code will loop until the asserted IRQs are cleared but it will only
handle IRQs that were already asserted when it was called. This
means the caller must also loop (either manually, or through its IRQ
mechanism) until the IRQs are all handled. It makes sense to either do
all the looping in sdw_handle_slave_alerts or do no looping there and
let the host controller repeatedly call it until things are handled.

There are realistically two sensible host controllers, those that
will generate an IRQ when the alert status changes and those
that will generate an IRQ continuously whilst the alert status
is high. The current code will work fine for the second of those
systems but not the first with out additional looping in the host
controller. Removing the code that filters out new IRQs whilst
the handler is running enables both types of host controller to be
supported and simplifies the code. The code will still only loop up to
SDW_READ_INTR_CLEAR_RETRY times, so it shouldn't be possible for it to
get completely stuck handling IRQs forever, and if you are generating
IRQs faster than you can handle them you likely have bigger problems
anyway.

This fixes an issue on the Cadence SoundWire IP, which only generates
IRQs on an alert status change, where an alert which arrives whilst
another alert is being handled will never be handled and will block
all future alerts from being handled.

6378fe1120 soundwire: qcom: prepare for handling different register layouts
Currently the driver supports Qualcomm Soundwire controller versions
from v1.3 till v1.7 which mostly have same register layout. With
coming Qualcomm Soundwire v2.0, several registers were moved and
changed, thus a different register layout will have to be supported.

Prepare for this by:
1. Renaming few register defines to indicate v1.3 (earliest supported)
   version,
2. Add a simple table for mapping register to its offset,
3. Change the code to use the mapping table.

Since only few registers differ, this solution seems easier then
switching to regmap fields.

67572c8dc6 soundwire: intel_auxdevice: improve pm_prepare step
In the case where multiple peripherals are attached on the same link,
it's possible that they are in different pm_runtime states.

The device_for_each_child() loop to resume all devices before a system
suspend would not work if one peripheral was active and others
suspended. pm_runtime_resume() returns 1 in the former case, which is
taken as a error. As a result, a pm_runtime suspended device might be
skipped if the first device was active.

This patch changes the behavior of the helper function to only return
zero or a negative error. A Fixes tag is not provided since there are
no existing configurations on Intel platforms with different types of
devices on the same link. Amplifiers may be used on the same link, but
they are used by the same dailink so their pm_runtime state is always
matching. This assumption may not be true in the future, so we should
improve the behavior and align with AMD.

e953796251 soundwire: bus: Fix unbalanced pm_runtime_put() causing usage count underflow
This reverts commit
443a98e649 ("soundwire: bus: use pm_runtime_resume_and_get()")

Change calls to pm_runtime_resume_and_get() back to pm_runtime_get_sync().
This fixes a usage count underrun caused by doing a pm_runtime_put() even
though pm_runtime_resume_and_get() returned an error.

The three affected functions ignore -EACCES error from trying to get
pm_runtime, and carry on, including a put at the end of the function.
But pm_runtime_resume_and_get() does not increment the usage count if it
returns an error. So in the -EACCES case you must not call
pm_runtime_put().

The documentation for pm_runtime_get_sync() says:
"Consider using pm_runtime_resume_and_get() ... as this is likely to
 result in cleaner code."

In this case I don't think it results in cleaner code because the
pm_runtime_put() at the end of the function would have to be conditional on
the return value from pm_runtime_resume_and_get() at the top of the
function.

pm_runtime_get_sync() doesn't have this problem because it always
increments the count, so always needs a put. The code can just flow through
and do the pm_runtime_put() unconditionally.

0a0d1740bd soundwire: intel: don't save hw_params for use in prepare
The existing code copies the hw_params pointer and reuses it later in
.prepare, specifically to re-initialize the ALH DMA channel
information that's lost in suspend-resume cycles.

This is not needed, we can directly access the information from the
substream/rtd - as done for the HDAudio DAIs in
sound/soc/sof/intel/hda-dai.c

In addition, using the saved pointer causes the suspend-resume test
cases to fail on specific platforms, depending on which version of GCC
is used. Péter Ujfalusi and I have spent long hours to root-cause this
problem that was reported by the Intel CI first with 6.2-rc1 and again
v6.3-rc1. In the latter case we were lucky that the problem was 100%
reproducible on local test devices, and found out that adding a
dev_dbg() or adding a call to usleep_range() just before accessing the
saved pointer "fixed" the issue. With errors appearing just by
changing the compiler version or minor changes in the code generated,
clearly we have a memory management Heisenbug.

The root-cause seems to be that the hw_params pointer is not
persistent. The soc-pcm code allocates the hw_params structure on the
stack, and passes it to the BE dailink hw_params and DAIs
hw_params. Saving such a pointer and reusing it later during the
.prepare stage cannot possibly work reliably, it's broken-by-design
since v5.10. It's astonishing that the problem was not seen earlier.

This simple fix will have to be back-ported to -stable, due to changes
to avoid the use of the get/set_dmadata routines this patch will only
apply on kernels older than v6.1.

d005ea713d soundwire: bus: Update sdw_nread/nwrite_no_pm to handle page boundaries
Currently issuing a sdw_nread/nwrite_no_pm across a page boundary
will silently fail to write correctly as nothing updates the page
registers, meaning the same page of the chip will get rewritten
with each successive page of data.

As the sdw_msg structure contains page information it seems
reasonable that a single sdw_msg should always be within one
page. It is also mostly simpler to handle the paging at the
bus level rather than each master having to handle it in their
xfer_msg callback.

As such add handling to the bus code to split up a transfer into
multiple sdw_msg's when they go across page boundaries.

9ddae9dad0 soundwire: bandwidth allocation: Use hweight32() to calculate set bits
Replace the call to sdw_ch_mask_to_ch() with a call to hweight32().

sdw_ch_mask_to_ch() is counting the number of set bits. The hweight()

using a bit-counting instruction if it is available on the target CPU.
This also fixes a potential infinite loop bug in the implementation of

2367e0ecb4 soundwire: qcom: gracefully handle too many ports in DT
There are two issues related to the number of ports coming from
Devicetree when exceeding in total QCOM_SDW_MAX_PORTS. Both lead to
incorrect memory accesses:
1. With DTS having too big value of input or output ports, the driver,
when copying port parameters from local/stack arrays into 'pconfig'
array in 'struct qcom_swrm_ctrl', will iterate over their sizes.

2. If DTS also has too many parameters for these ports (e.g.
qcom,ports-sinterval-low), the driver will overflow buffers on the
stack when reading these properties from DTS.

Add a sanity check so incorrect DTS will not cause kernel memory
corruption.

9402e25df1 soundwire: cadence: add helpers to access IP_MCP registers
The latest Cadence IP splits some of the existing registers into two,
separated by a fixed offset. The bitfields themselves remain at the
same position, so we can use new helpers to dynamically add the fixed
offset.

For example, the existing MCP_CONFIG is now split in two with
MCP_CONFIG and IP_MCP_CONFIG (the naming comes directly from the
design document).

This patch adds helpers to access registers with the IP_ prefix. The
addition of the 'ip' prefix for helpers, registers and bitfields is
intentional to help reviewers spot any mistake.

For existing solutions, the offset is exactly zero so there's no
functional change - the MCP_CONFIG and IP_MCP_CONFIG are aliased to
the same address.

a93e884edf Driver core changes for 6.3-rc1
Here is the large set of driver core changes for 6.3-rc1.

There's a lot of changes this development cycle, most of the work falls
 into two different categories:
   - fw_devlink fixes and updates. This has gone through numerous review
cycles and lots of review and testing by lots of different devices.
Hopefully all should be good now, and Saravana will be keeping a
watch for any potential regression on odd embedded systems.
   - driver core changes to work to make struct bus_type able to be moved
into read-only memory (i.e. const) The recent work with Rust has
pointed out a number of areas in the driver core where we are
passing around and working with structures that really do not have
to be dynamic at all, and they should be able to be read-only making
things safer overall. This is the contuation of that work (started
last release with kobject changes) in moving struct bus_type to be
constant. We didn't quite make it for this release, but the
remaining patches will be finished up for the release after this
one, but the groundwork has been laid for this effort.

Other than that we have in here:
   - debugfs memory leak fixes in some subsystems
   - error path cleanups and fixes for some never-able-to-be-hit
     codepaths.
   - cacheinfo rework and fixes
   - Other tiny fixes, full details are in the shortlog

All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
 problems.

Pull driver core updates from Greg KH:
"Here is the large set of driver core changes for 6.3-rc1.

There's a lot of changes this development cycle, most of the work
  falls into two different categories:

   - fw_devlink fixes and updates. This has gone through numerous review
cycles and lots of review and testing by lots of different devices.
Hopefully all should be good now, and Saravana will be keeping a
watch for any potential regression on odd embedded systems.

   - driver core changes to work to make struct bus_type able to be
moved into read-only memory (i.e. const) The recent work with Rust
has pointed out a number of areas in the driver core where we are
passing around and working with structures that really do not have
to be dynamic at all, and they should be able to be read-only
making things safer overall. This is the contuation of that work
(started last release with kobject changes) in moving struct
bus_type to be constant. We didn't quite make it for this release,
but the remaining patches will be finished up for the release after
this one, but the groundwork has been laid for this effort.

Other than that we have in here:

   - debugfs memory leak fixes in some subsystems

   - error path cleanups and fixes for some never-able-to-be-hit
     codepaths.

   - cacheinfo rework and fixes

   - Other tiny fixes, full details are in the shortlog

All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
  problems"

[ Geert Uytterhoeven points out that that last sentence isn't true, and
that there's a pending report that has a fix that is queued up - Linus ]

Copying the bus sdw_defer structure into the Cadence internals leads
to using stale pointers and kernel oopses on errors. It's just simpler

45cb70f999 soundwire: bus: remove sdw_defer argument in sdw_transfer_defer()
There's no point in passing an argument that is a pointer to a bus
member. We can directly get the member and do an indirection when
needed.

This is a first step before simplifying the hardware-specific
callbacks further.

soundwire: stream: Add specific prep/deprep commands to port_prep callback
Currently, port_prep callback only has commands for PRE_PREP, PREP,
and POST_PREP, which doesn't directly say whether this is for a
prepare or deprepare call. Extend the command list enum to say
whether the call is for prepare or deprepare aswell.

Also remove SDW_OPS_PORT_PREP from sdw_port_prep_ops as this is unused,
and update this enum to be simpler and more consistent with enum
sdw_clk_stop_type.

Note: Currently, the only users of SDW_OPS_PORT_POST_PREP are codec
drivers sound/soc/codecs/wsa881x.c and sound/soc/codecs/wsa883x.c, both
of which seem to assume that POST_PREP only occurs after a prepare,
even though it would also have occurred after a deprepare. Since it
doesn't make sense to mark the port prepared after a deprepare, changing
the enum to separate PORT_DEPREP from PORT_PREP should make the check
for PORT_PREP in those drivers be more logical.

c8a0d6b256 soundwire: bus: Don't zero page registers after every transaction
Zeroing the page registers at the end of every paged transaction is just
overhead (40% overhead on a 1-register access, 25% on a 4-register
transaction). According to the spec a peripheral that supports paging
should only use the values in the page registers if the address is paged
(address bit 15 set). The core SoundWire code always writes the page
registers at the start of a paged transaction so there will never be a
transaction that uses the stale values from a previous paged transaction.

For peripherals that need large amounts of data to be transferred, for
example firmware or filter coefficients, the overhead of page register
zeroing can become quite significant.

3dca1f89ae soundwire: bus_type: Avoid lockdep assert in sdw_drv_probe()
Don't hold sdw_dev_lock while calling the peripheral driver
probe() and remove() callbacks.

Holding sdw_dev_lock around the probe() and remove() calls causes
a theoretical mutex inversion which lockdep will assert on.

During probe() the sdw_dev_lock mutex is taken first and then
ASoC/ALSA locks are taken by the probe() implementation.

During normal operation ASoC can take its locks and then trigger
a runtime resume of the component. The SoundWire resume will then
take sdw_dev_lock. This is the reverse order compared to probe().

It's not necessary to hold sdw_dev_lock when calling the probe()
and remove(), it is only used to prevent the bus core calling the
driver callbacks if there isn't a driver or the driver is removing.

All calls to the driver callbacks are guarded by the 'probed' flag.
So if sdw_dev_lock is held while setting and clearing the 'probed'
flag this is sufficient to guarantee the safety of callback
functions.

Removing the mutex from around the call to probe() means that it
is now possible for a bus event (PING response) to be handled in
parallel with the probe(). But sdw_bus_probe() already has
handling for this by calling the device update_status() after
the probe() has completed.

Example lockdep assert:

545c365185 soundwire: stream: Move remaining register accesses over to no_pm
There is no need to play with the runtime reference everytime a register
is accessed. All the remaining "pm" style register accesses trace back
to 4 functions:

sdw_prepare_stream
sdw_deprepare_stream
sdw_enable_stream
sdw_disable_stream

Any sensible implementation will need to hold a runtime reference
across all those functions, it makes no sense to be allowing the
device/bus to suspend whilst streams are being prepared/enabled. And
certainly in the case of the all existing users, they all call these
functions from hw_params/prepare/trigger/hw_free callbacks in ALSA,
which will have already runtime resumed all the audio devices
associated during the open callback.

0603a47bd3 soundwire: cadence: Drain the RX FIFO after an IO timeout
If wait_for_completion_timeout() times-out in _cdns_xfer_msg() it
is possible that something could have been written to the RX FIFO.
In this case, we should drain the RX FIFO so that anything in it
doesn't carry over and mess up the next transfer.

Obviously, if we got to this state something went wrong, and we
don't really know the state of everything. The cleanup in this
situation cannot be bullet-proof but we should attempt to avoid
breaking future transaction, if only to reduce the amount of
error noise when debugging the failure from a kernel log.

Note that this patch only implements the draining for blocking
(non-deferred) transfers. The deferred API doesn't have any proper
handling of error conditions and would need some re-design before
implementing cleanup. That is a task for a separate patch...

7cbfee2e2e soundwire: cadence: Don't overflow the command FIFOs
The command FIFOs in the Cadence IP can be configured during design
up to 32 entries, and the code in cadence_master.c was assuming the
full 32-entry FIFO. But all current Intel implementations use an 8-entry
FIFO.

Up to now the longest message used was 6 entries so this wasn't
causing any problem. But future Cirrus Logic codecs have downloadable
firmware or tuning blobs. It is more efficient for the codec driver to
issue long transfers that can take advantage of any queuing in the
Soundwire controller and avoid the overhead of repeatedly writing the
page registers.

5c2f4c9cfc soundwire: intel: remove DAI startup/shutdown
The only thing these DAI startup/shutdown callbacks do is play with
pm_runtime reference counts.

This is not wrong, but it's not necessary at all. At the ASoC core level,
only the component matters for pm_runtime. The ASoC core already calls
pm_runtime_get_sync() in snd_soc_pcm_component_pm_runtime_get(),
before the DAI startup callback is invoked.

None of the SoundWire codec drivers rely on pm_runtime helpers in
their DAI startup/shutdown either. This adds to the evidence that only
the component, or more precisely the device specified when registering
a component, should deal with pm_runtime transitions.

Beyond the code cleanup, this move prepares for the addition of link
power management in the auxiliary device startup/resume/suspend
callbacks. The DAI callbacks can by-design assume that the device is
already pm_runtime active.
