0181307abc ALSA: seq: Reorganize kconfig and build
This is a slightly intensive rewrite of Kconfig and Makefile about
ALSA sequencer stuff.

The first major change is that the kconfig items for the sequencer are
moved to sound/core/seq/Kconfig. OK, that's easy.

The substantial change is that, instead of hackish top-level module
selection in Makefile, we define a Kconfig item for each sequencer
module. The driver that requires such sequencer components select
exclusively the kconfig items. This is more straightforward and
standard way.

3d774d5ef0 ALSA: seq: Allow the tristate build of OSS emulation
Currently OSS sequencer emulation is tied with ALSA sequencer core,
both are built in the same level; i.e. when CONFIG_SND_SEQUENCER=y,
the OSS sequencer emulation is also always built-in, even though the
functionality can be built as an individual module.

This patch changes the rule and allows users to build snd-seq-oss
module while others are built-in. Essentially, it's just a few simple
changes in Kconfig and Makefile. Some driver codes like opl3 need to
convert from the simple ifdef to IS_ENABLED(). But that's all.

You might wonder how about the dependency: right, it can be messy, but
it still works. Since we rewrote the sequencer binding with the
standard bus, the driver can be bound at any time on demand. So, the
synthesizer driver module can be loaded individually from the OSS
emulation core before/after it.

Merge tag 'hwparam-20170420' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-fs

Pull hw lockdown support from David Howells:
"Annotation of module parameters that configure hardware resources
including ioports, iomem addresses, irq lines and dma channels.

This allows a future patch to prohibit the use of such module
parameters to prevent that hardware from being abused to gain access
to the running kernel image as part of locking the kernel down under
  UEFI secure boot conditions.

  Annotations are made by changing:

        module_param(n, t, p)
        module_param_named(n, v, t, p)
        module_param_array(n, t, m, p)

  to:

        module_param_hw(n, t, hwtype, p)
        module_param_hw_named(n, v, t, hwtype, p)
        module_param_hw_array(n, t, hwtype, m, p)

where the module parameter refers to a hardware setting

hwtype specifies the type of the resource being configured. This can
  be one of:

ioport Module parameter configures an I/O port
iomem Module parameter configures an I/O mem address
ioport_or_iomem Module parameter could be either (runtime set)
irq Module parameter configures an I/O port
dma Module parameter configures a DMA channel
dma_addr Module parameter configures a DMA buffer address
other Module parameter configures some other value

Note that the hwtype is compile checked, but not currently stored (the
lockdown code probably won't require it). It is, however, there for
  future use.

A bonus is that the hwtype can also be used for grepping.

The intention is for the kernel to ignore or reject attempts to set
annotated module parameters if lockdown is enabled. This applies to
options passed on the boot command line, passed to insmod/modprobe or
direct twiddling in /sys/module/ parameter files.

The module initialisation then needs to handle the parameter not being
set, by (1) giving an error, (2) probing for a value or (3) using a
  reasonable default.

What I can't do is just reject a module out of hand because it may
take a hardware setting in the module parameters. Some important
modules, some ipmi stuff for instance, both probe for hardware and
allow hardware to be manually specified; if the driver is aborts with
any error, you don't get any ipmi hardware.

Further, trying to do this entirely in the module initialisation code
  doesn't protect against sysfs twiddling.

[!] Note that in and of itself, this series of patches should have no
effect on the the size of the kernel or code execution - that is
left to a patch in the next series to effect. It does mark
annotated kernel parameters with a KERNEL_PARAM_FL_HWPARAM flag in
      an already existing field"

b11ce420c5 Annotate hardware config module parameters in sound/drivers/
When the kernel is running in secure boot mode, we lock down the kernel to
prevent userspace from modifying the running kernel image. Whilst this
includes prohibiting access to things like /dev/mem, it must also prevent
access by means of configuring driver modules in such a way as to cause a
device to access or modify the kernel image.

To this end, annotate module_param* statements that refer to hardware
configuration and indicate for future reference what type of parameter they
specify. The parameter parser in the core sees this information and can
skip such parameters with an error message if the kernel is locked down.
The module initialisation then runs as normal, but just sees whatever the
default values for those parameters is.

Note that we do still need to do the module initialisation because some
drivers have viable defaults set in case parameters aren't specified and
some drivers support automatic configuration (e.g. PNP or PCI) in addition
to manually coded parameters.

This patch annotates drivers in sound/drivers/.

ddce57a6f0 ALSA: dummy: Implement timer backend switching more safely
Currently the selected timer backend is referred at any moment from
the running PCM callbacks. When the backend is switched, it's
possible to lead to inconsistency from the running backend. This was
pointed by syzkaller fuzzer, and the commit [7ee96216c3: ALSA:
dummy: Disable switching timer backend via sysfs] disabled the dynamic
switching for avoiding the crash.

This patch improves the handling of timer backend switching. It keeps
the reference to the selected backend during the whole operation of an
opened stream so that it won't be changed by other streams.

Together with this change, the hrtimer parameter is reenabled as
writable now.

NOTE: this patch also turned out to fix the still remaining race.
Namely, ops was still replaced dynamically at dummy_pcm_open:

  static int dummy_pcm_open(struct snd_pcm_substream *substream)
  {
  ....
          dummy->timer_ops = &dummy_systimer_ops;
          if (hrtimer)
                  dummy->timer_ops = &dummy_hrtimer_ops;

Since dummy->timer_ops is common among all streams, and when the
replacement happens during accesses of other streams, it may lead to a
crash. This was actually triggered by syzkaller fuzzer and KASAN.

This patch rewrites the code not to use the ops shared by all streams
any longer, too.

7ee96216c3 ALSA: dummy: Disable switching timer backend via sysfs
ALSA dummy driver can switch the timer backend between system timer
and hrtimer via its hrtimer module option. This can be also switched
dynamically via sysfs, but it may lead to a memory corruption when
switching is done while a PCM stream is running; the stream instance
for the newly switched timer method tries to access the memory that
was allocated by another timer method although the sizes differ.

As the simplest fix, this patch just disables the switch via sysfs by
dropping the writable bit.

a016af2e70 sound updates for 4.5-rc1
We've had quite busy weeks in this cycle. Looking at ALSA core, the
significant changes are a few fixes wrt timer and sequencer ioctls
that have been revealed by fuzzer recently. Other than that, ASoC
core got a few updates about DAI link handling, but these are rather
 straightforward refactoring.

In drivers scene, ASoC received quite lots of new drivers in addition
to bunch of updates for still ongoing Intel Skylake support and
topology API. HD-audio gained a new HDMI/DP hotplug notification via
component. FireWire got a pile of code refactoring/updates with
 SCS.1x driver integration.

 More highlights are shown below.

[NOTE: this contains also many commits for DRM. This is due to the
pull of drm stable branch into sound tree, as the base of i915 audio
component work for HD-audio. The highlights below don't contain
these DRM changes, as these are supposed to be pulled via drm tree in
  anyway sooner or later.]

 Core
  - Handful fixes to harden ALSA timer and sequencer ioctls against
    races reported by syzkaller fuzzer
  - Irq description string can be unique to each card; only for
    HD-audio for now

 ASoC
  - Conversion of the array of DAI links to a list for supporting
dynamically adding and removing DAI links
  - Topology API enhancements to make everything more component based
and being able to specify PCM links via topology
  - Some more fixes for the topology code, though it is still not final
and ready for enabling in production; we really need to get to the
point where that can be done
  - A pile of changes for Intel SkyLake drivers which hopefully deliver
some useful initial functionality for systems with this chipset,
though there is more work still to come
  - Lots of new features and cleanups for the Renesas drivers
  - ANC support for WM5110
  - New drivers: Imagination Technologies IPs, Atmel class D speaker,
    Cirrus CS47L24 and WM1831, Dialog DA7128, Realtek RT5659 and
RT56156, Rockchip RK3036, TI PC3168A, and AMD ACP
  - Rename PCM1792a driver to be generic pcm179x

 HD-Audio
  - Use audio component for i915 HDMI/DP hotplug handling
  - On-demand binding with i915 driver
  - bdl_pos_adj parameter adjustment for Baytrail controllers
  - Enable power_save_node for CX20722; this shouldn't lead to
    regression, hopefully
  - Kabylake HDMI/DP codec support
  - Quirks for Lenovo E50-80, Dell Latitude E-series, and other Dell
    machines
  - A few code refactoring

 FireWire
  - Lots of code cleanup and refactoring
  - Integrate the support of SCS.1x devices into snd-oxfw driver;
    snd-scs1x driver is obsoleted

 USB-audio
  - Fix possible NULL dereference at disconnection
  - A regression fix for Native Instruments devices

 Misc
  - A few code cleanups of fm801 driver

It was a busy development cycle at this time, as you can see a wide
range of changes in diffstat. There are no big changes but many
refactoring and improvements. Here we go some highlights:

 * ALSA core:
 - Procfs codes were cleaned up to use seq_file
 - Procfs can be opt out via Kconfig (only for EXPERT)
 - Two types of jack API were unified finally; now both kctl and input
jack devs are handled via a single function call.

 * HD-audio
 - Continued code restructuring for the future ASoC driver; now HDA
controller driver is split to a core helper module.
 - Preliminary codes for Skylake audio support in HDA core.
 - Proper i915 gfx power well management for SKL & co
 - Enabled runtime PM as default for Intel HDMI/DP codecs
 - Newer Tegra chip supports
 - More quirks for Dell headsets, Alienware (with CA0132), etc.
 - A couple of DRM ELD helper API functions

 * ASoC
 - Support for loading ASoC topology maps from firmware, intended to be
used to allow self-describing DSP firmware images to be built which
can map controls added by the DSP to userspace without the kernel
needing to know about individual DSP firmwares
 - Lots of refactoring to avoid direct access to snd_soc_codec where
it's not needed supporting future refactoring
 - Big refactoring, cleanup and enhancement for the Wolfson ADSP driver
 - Cleanup series for TI TAS2552 and R-CAR drivers
 - Fixes and improvements on RT56xx codecs
 - Support for TI TAS571x power amplifiers
 - Support for Qualcomm APQ8016 and ZTE ZX296702 SoCs
 - Support for x86 systems with RT5650 and Qualcomm Storm
 - Support for Mediatek AFE (Audio Front End) unit
 - Other various small fixes to ASoC codec drivers

 * Firewire
 - Enhanced to allow non-blocking streams to use timestamp
   synchronization

e6b5be2be4 Driver core patches for 3.19-rc1
Here's the set of driver core patches for 3.19-rc1.

They are dominated by the removal of the .owner field in platform
drivers. They touch a lot of files, but they are "simple" changes, just
removing a line in a structure.

Other than that, a few minor driver core and debugfs changes. There are
some ath9k patches coming in through this tree that have been acked by
the wireless maintainers as they relied on the debugfs changes.

Everything has been in linux-next for a while.

86b2723725 ALSA: Make snd_printd() and snd_printdd() inline
Because currently snd_printd() and snd_printdd() macros are expanded
to empty when CONFIG_SND_DEBUG=n, a compile warning like below
appears sometimes, and we had to covert it by ugly ifdefs:
  sound/pci/hda/patch_sigmatel.c: In function ‘stac92hd71bxx_fixup_hp’:
sound/pci/hda/patch_sigmatel.c:2434:24: warning: unused variable ‘spec’ [-Wunused-variable]

For "fixing" these issues better, this patch replaces snd_printd() and
snd_printdd() definitions with empty inline functions instead of
macros. This should have the same effect but shut up warnings like
above.

But since we had already put ifdefs, changing to inline functions
would trigger compile errors. So, such ifdefs is removed in this
patch.

In addition, snd_pci_quirk name field is defined only when
CONFIG_SND_DEBUG_VERBOSE is set, and the reference to it in
snd_printdd() argument triggers the build errors, too. For avoiding
these errors, introduce a new macro snd_pci_quirk_name() that is
defined no matter how the debug option is set.

dba8b46992 ALSA: mpu401: clean up interrupt specification
The semantics of snd_mpu401_uart_new()'s interrupt parameters are
somewhat counterintuitive: To prevent the function from allocating its
own interrupt, either the irq number must be invalid, or the irq_flags
parameter must be zero. At the same time, the irq parameter being
invalid specifies that the mpu401 code has to work without an interrupt
allocated by the caller. This implies that, if there is an interrupt
and it is allocated by the caller, the irq parameter must be set to
a valid-looking number which then isn't actually used.

With the removal of IRQF_DISABLED, zero becomes a valid irq_flags value,
which forces us to handle the parameters differently.

This patch introduces a new flag MPU401_INFO_IRQ_HOOK for when the
device interrupt is handled by the caller, and makes the allocation of
the interrupt to depend only on the irq parameter. As suggested by
Takashi, the irq_flags parameter was dropped because, when used, it had
the constant value IRQF_DISABLED.

5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

  http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

08604bd993 time: move PIT_TICK_RATE to linux/timex.h
PIT_TICK_RATE is currently defined in four architectures, but in three
different places. While linux/timex.h is not the perfect place for it, it
is still a reasonable replacement for those drivers that traditionally use
asm/timex.h to get CLOCK_TICK_RATE and expect it to be the PIT frequency.

Note that for Alpha, the actual value changed from 1193182UL to 1193180UL.
This is unlikely to make a difference, and probably can only improve
accuracy. There was a discussion on the correct value of CLOCK_TICK_RATE
a few years ago, after which every existing instance was getting changed
to 1193182. According to the specification, it should be
1193181.818181...

the ALSA PCM core. The first part is called both from the trigger-start
and the hrtimer callback while the latter is handled only in the
hrtimer callback.

ca109491f6 hrtimer: removing all ur callback modes
Impact: cleanup, move all hrtimer processing into hardirq context

This is an attempt at removing some of the hrtimer complexity by
reducing the number of callback modes to 1.

This means that all hrtimer callback functions will be ran from HARD-irq
context.

I went through all the 30 odd hrtimer callback functions in the kernel
and saw only one that I'm not quite sure of, which is the one in
net/can/bcm.c - hence I'm CC-ing the folks responsible for that code.

Furthermore, the hrtimer core now calls callbacks directly with IRQs
disabled in case you try to enqueue an expired timer. If this timer is a
periodic timer (which should use hrtimer_forward() to advance its time)
then it might be possible to end up in an inf. recursive loop due to the
fact that hrtimer_forward() doesn't round up to the next timer
granularity, and therefore keeps on calling the callback - obviously
this needs a fix.

Aside from that, this seems to compile and actually boot on my dual core
test box - although I'm sure there are some bugs in, me not hitting any
makes me certain :-)

96c7d478ef ALSA: pcsp - Fix locking messes in snd-pcsp
snd-pcsp driver takes chip->substream_lock together with PCM substream
lock. These are even mixed up with hrtimer's lock, resulting in messy
lock depencies. Right now, snd-pcsp driver resolves the deadlock by
using HRTIMER_CB_SOFTIRQ. However, this isn't nice for a really fast
path like bit-flipping.

This patch introduces a tasklet for PCM period handling so that the
hrtimer callback can be handled fast. This also reduce the use of
chip->substream_lock to avoid deadlocks. It's still used in pointer
callback, but even this could be removed with a proper barrier.

Another good solution is to introduce async trigger callback. But,
this will involve with a major rewrite of the PCM core code, so I
take first this easy fix.

a9f00d8df2 [ALSA] Xilinx ML403 AC97 Controller Reference device driver
Add ALSA support for the opb_ac97_controller_ref_v1_00_a ip core found
in Xilinx' ML403 reference design.
Known issue: Currently this driver hits a WARN_ON_ONCE(1) statement in
kernel/irq/resend.c (line 70). According to Linus
(http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/8/5/5) this may be ignored, right? I haven't
had a look into this 'problem' yet.

69d8d3eb4d [ALSA] mpu-401: do not require an ACK byte for the ENTER_UART command
The original MPU-401 does not send an ACK byte after processing the
ENTER_UART command, so we better do not try to wait for it.
Many clones get this wrong and do send an ACK, but when interpreting it
as MIDI, it is just a harmless Active Sensing message, and it is likely
to be read and discarded by the interrupt handler before the MIDI input
device is triggered.
